| | Paolo Nutini These Streets CD - Import Paolo Nutini Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
On his full-length studio debut, THESE STREETS, young Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini offers up a confident set of pop-savvy tunes in the vein of James Blunt and John Mayer. Helmed by esteemed producer Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Coldplay), the album deftly mixes mid-tempo rock songs (the scrappy "Jenny Don't Be Hasty") with emotive ballads (the yearning "Last Request"; the regretful "Rewind"), revealing Nutini's raspy-voiced, easy-going charm. A highly successful record in the U.K., THESE STREETS bodes well for Nutini's future work.
2006 debut album by this young Scottish singer/songwriter influenced by such diverse artists as John Martyn, Van Morrison, Ray Charles and The Drifters, who is playing sold-out headline shows across the UK based on positive word-of-mouth and press support. 10 tracks including 'Jenny Don't Be Hasty', 'Last Request' and 'New Shoes'. $15.09 The 10-year-anniversary deluxe edition of CROOKED RAIN, CROOKED RAIN is a Pavement fan's dream come true. It feature no less than 37 (!) bonus tracks over the course of its two discs. Some are studio outtakes, some are alternate versions, others are rare B-sides, but all hail from the CROOKED RAIN era and underscore the degree to which the band was firing on all cylinders at the time.
Tuneful without being soft, confident without being pompous, hip without being inaccesible, CROOKED RAIN, CROOKED RAIN was a huge leap for Pavement up the rock & roll evolution cycle. They may have gained some pop smarts, but a casual listen to the dissonant guitar solo ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
These Streets
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; and ...

| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
These Streets
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, ...

These Streets
$47.94 Recorded live at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York on November 27-28, 1969.
Returning to the American concert scene after a three-year layoff, the Rolling Stones recorded GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! during a triumphant two-date stand at Madison Square Garden in late November 1969 that found B.B. King and Ike & Tina Turner opening for them. Having amassed an impressive recorded output during their three years away from touring, the Stones peppered their sets with hits, including "Honky Tonk Women," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Street Fighting Man." Tipping their collective hats to Chuck Berry, the band also included covers ...

| | Marykate O'Neil 1-800-Bankrupt CD (2006)
These Streets
$8.69 New York singer-songwriter Marykate O'Neil's second album lays bare the fallout of both successful and failed relationships in songs with titles like "Things Are Too Good (They're Bound to Go Bad)" and "Remember the Year We Were Normal." Her pop-tinged compositions are often overlaid with imaginative sonic flourishes, courtesy of her production team of Roger Mountenot and Jill Sobule (the latter no slouch in the singer-songwriter department herself) that span ramshackle garage rock and the U2-"It's a Beautiful Day" soundalike, "Stay."
Marykate has crafted a style with humor and irony intact anchored in daily life. 4 stars - Rolling Stone If Elvis Costello and Astrid Gilberto swapped spit in another time dimension, singer/guitarist Marykate O'Neil would be the musical spawn of their eros. -- CMJ Essential Listen Living a post-college cubicle life in lower Manhattan, and living by night as a shut-in in Brooklyn, O’Neil would pen the songs that made up the critically acclaimed self-released, self-entitled, "Marykate O’Neil". The no budget record, funded entirely by O’Neil’s unofficial sponsor, visa (pre-approved), went on to peak at #8 on the CMJ charts, who in turn called the record "spotlessly constructed" and picked it as an essential listen. Rockpile said it was "the perfect blend of metropolitan indie high society and Music City's tradition of sanguine, heart-crafted songwriting." The record was released outside the US a year later in Japan, Australia, and Europe and O’Neil found herself touring both as a solo artist and along side her band throughout the US and Europe. O’Neil’s songs were featured in the Sundance award winning film “Stephanie Daily” and Japanese pop idol Tomoyo Harada covered three of O’Neil’s songs on her album ‘My Pieces’.Encouraged, O’Neil charged another and got the attention of Nettwerk music group who recently released her latest record "1-800-bankrupt”. It ...
| | Neaera Let The Tempest Come CD (2006)
These Streets
$10.69 In the early 2000s, Metal Blade put out quite a few CDs that had some type of hardcore influence. Some were regular metalcore, some were in the mathcore/math metal vein, some were relevant to screamo/post-hardcore -- and all of those styles have been hardcore-influenced even though they aren't hardcore in the old-school sense. The fact that Metal Blade was so receptive to hardcore-influenced bands may explain why some reviewers have described Neaera's second album, Let the Tempest Come, as straight-up metalcore (that, and the fact that they look and dress like a hardcore band). But those reviews were misleading because Neaera -- a German unit with a strong Scandinavian influence -- do not sound like Hatebreed, Throwdown, or Brick Bath (three examples of bands that have provided straight-up metalcore). Truth be told, Let the Tempest Come is -- above ...

| | Terri Hendrix Spiritual Kind CD (2007)
These Streets
$26.79 The highly influential grunge/Nirvana/Pearl Jam/Seattle explosion of the early '90s not only made angst a primary ingredient of loud, heavily amplified, hard-rocking bands -- it also had a major impact on the singer/songwriter field. Plenty of introspective singer/songwriters who emerged in the post-Nevermind world (both male and female) have thrived on a steady diet of angst, dissatisfaction, and anxiety even if they are surrounded by acoustic guitars, got their start in coffee houses, and don't sound anything at all like Courtney Love or Eddie Vedder musically. But angst has not been a high priority for Terri Hendrix, who continues to see the glass as half full -- or maybe even 65- or 70-percent full -- on 2007's The Spiritual Kind, which was produced by Lloyd Maines (father ...
| | Unbroken Pda CD (2008)
These Streets
$14.79 UnbrokeN is very passionate about playing and singing Christian Rock music. They stand everyday for Jesus Christ, pushing toward their dream to be able to reach lost souls, change, and touch lives worldwide. These are a few statements that have been made about the band UnbrokeN, originating from Springdale, Arkansas. You see entertainment is not just what their ministry is about, but affecting their world for Jesus Christ. Many know to have a ministry it takes sacrifice, and the will to carry on even when things just aren’t going the way they should. UnbrokeN has already begun their ministry, and they know about making sacrifices. They have stood strong, and are willing to do whatever it takes to see that Jesus Christ is known to those that don’t know him. They aren’t just another Christian band, ...
