Before joining Slipknot, guitarist Jim Root and vocalist Corey Taylor fronted Stone Sour, an alt-metal act with melodic sensibilities. The success of Slipknot inspired Root and Taylor to reform their original outfit, and the band's self-titled debut proved a success. Stone Sour's sound is reminiscent of Slipknot's, yet is distinctive enough to stand on its own merits.

COME WHAT(EVER) MAY, the group's sophomore effort, pushes Stone Sour's sound a bit further than its predecessor. While the album's sonic attack is still unremittingly heavy, with thunderous drums and distortion-saturated riffs, there's also a keen sense of accessibility that foregrounds melody and eschews thrash in favor of flat-out hard rock. These elements, combined with Taylor's throaty voice, place Stone Sour a cut above your average post-grunge metal outfit, and COME WHAT(EVER) MAY hints that the group may be poised for a mainstream breakthrough.

This set includes the CD featuring 6 bonus tracks. The DVD includes all of the band's music videos from the album and incredible live footage from their performance in Moscow in Fall of 2006. This title carries a parental advisory.

Alternative Press (p.224) - "[The album] builds on their debut's strengths, allowing frontman Corey Taylor to drop his mask in more ways than one."
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "Captured live giving it to the audience with both barrels, it's a smashing glimpse of just how potent SS are onstage."

3 stars Pretty Awesome
Having been put off by some of Slipknot's more recent music, I approached the second album from Corey Taylor's 'other band' with caution. As it happens, it is an extraordinarily good album with just enough variety to provide a range of effects without ever losing control

4 stars (3.5 stars) Please read my review
OK, now I thought Mudvayne was metal, but this album doesn't sound anything like metal. There are 4 tracks that are really soft, Corey sings a lot more than he screams. "Cardiff" is getting really famous these days, that song is sad and pretty good. "Hell And Consequences", "Reborn", and "1st Person" were the only heavy songs, "Come What (Ever) May", "30/30-150", "Made of Scars", and "Your God" sounded more like hard rock. "Through Glass", "Sillyworld", and "Zzyxz" were like regular rock and soft. But this album isn't as good as everyone says it is. It's really not that heavy and it sounds more like hard rock. But the band is still good.

Sorcerers of speed metal, protectors of the mighty thrash, knights of the double kick drum--Soulfly are out to take no prisoners with their third album--titled, of course, III. Ex-Sepultura mainman Max Cavalera pulls out all the stops with a jawdropping melange of churning, screaming guitars, throaty Cookie Monster vocals, and polyrhythmic percussion that, occasionally combined with sampled effects, is simultaneously hypnotic and overwhelming. "Downstroy" starts as the band means to continue--full-tilt, while the climax of "Enterfaith" incorporates a bowel-loosening kick drum attack that makes one thankful for the comparatively low-key "One" that immediately follows. There's a Portuguese ...

Come What(Ever) May

In about 1974 I stood in the living room of an apartment off Baker Street in London, my feet sank in the carpet, I had just been to dinner in the poshest of restaurants, and now I had to perform for Norman Newell, a then very famous record producer. I sang a new song which I had written, it included the line 'Winter's a good time for fish and chips and sitting in the cafe' Norman said 'why would I spoil such a beautiful song with such a line'. There were two reasons 1. It was what my girl friend and I did - we could not afford to do anything else - and I expect that there were millions of other couples like us who felt the same. 2. I wanted to be different from the rest I wanted a lyric which others had not written before. I have never much been into copying so I always try to find something that is new and different. I like the words, for me the tune is there to make the words be heard. For the most part I like the words to be clear, but I especially like sentences which can be taken in various ways. 'Mrs Beckham' on 'I'm the Boy Who Played Tom Paxton's Guitar' is one that I am very proud of. I have been around I have written many songs. I wrote many for children and would say that in the days when I did many shows for children these did really catch the attention. 'Bananas' and 'Game Boy' were very much enjoyed in many Countries, you can find them on 'Elephant Parrot and Kangaroo' and 'Bananas' Albums. Since 1980 I made, I think, eleven albums, nine are available now and they represent all the songs that I wrote, and kept, and a number of songs written by others. The musical style is Pop/Folk but some of the backing from some of the songs explores other ground including a little 'Regae' on 'Songs of Hello and Goodbye' and even a little 'Techno' on 'Victory is Ours'. I would be very happy if you liked 'Old Grey Coat' and if you would dip into 'The Extraordinary Songs of David McWilliams' - David wrote 'The Day's of Pearly Spencer' and he and I shared a manager. My first record was 'Didn't it Rain' written by David. 'My Passport Says Planet Earth' is an album of me and my guitar, I do not claim to be the worlds greatest Guitarist, ...
