Despite being one of the longest-running death metal/black metal bands from the U.S., Deicide had a bit of a hurdle in front of them before working on their eighth studio album, 2006's The Stench of Redemption -- founding members Eric and Brian Hoffman had exited the band. But growler/bassist Glen Benton soldiered on with a pair of quite accomplished replacements -- Jack Owen (ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Ralph Santolla (ex-Iced Earth) -- resulting in a release that follows the same path as Deicide's previous efforts. Featured are the grindcore-esque album-opening title track, the rapid-fire "Walk with the Devil in Dreams You Behold," and a barely recognizable cover of Deep Purple's "Black Night." Despite the lineup juggle, Deicide's trademark extreme metal sound has remained intact, as evidenced throughout The Stench of Redemption. ~ Greg Prato
Personnel: Glen Benton (vocals, bass instrument); Ralph Santolla, Jack Owen (guitars); Steve Asheim (drums).

New guitarists from Iced Earth and Cannibal Corpse have replaced the Hoffman brothers and their infusion is refreshing. The riffs on this album must be heard! Excellent album. EVIL GUITARS the guitars most stood out on this cd for me. there are ridiculously fast parts that are quite challenging to play. unlike the other reviewers im not familiar with any other deicide cd's i just buy whatever i decide when in the store. i dont regret this one, however its not something i could listen to over and over for days. but still good cd. Deicide's best album EVER! Somehow, I thought this album would be as tedious to listen to as their previous records, but I was wrong, fortunately. I know many will find it hard to accept this album as Deicide, but Ralph Santolla and Jack Owen help bring out the true potential of Deicide with interesting melodic touches, a potential that had gone to waste in their previous albums. Mellifluous Excellant album without question. To those people who miss the Hoff bros your idiots - Steve used to write all guitar parts for the band. Also the bros used to pay new guitarist Ralph to cum up with leads. Educate yourselfs. Submitted by nmguinness (Pony, Eire) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
An Ultra Brutal Experience Deicide have totally surpassed themselves, this is the sort of album that sends the greatest of Death Metal bands back to the drawing board. Every track on this album is brutal, fast and aggressive. Benton's vocals can only be compared to a bear roaring in anger. There are no words to describe Asheim's drumming, simply stunning and some of the fastest drumming i've ever heard, and there is a clear and obvious rise in standard of lead guitar playing since the addition of santolla and owen to the line up. A MUST HAVE for any deicide fan. The Death Metal bar has been raised!! Submitted by Steve (Southend-on-Sea, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Stench Of Redemption album
$14.45 Digitally remastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound, New York, New York.
With a shockingly tight performance and a handful of evil anthems, Glen Benton and company managed to craft a death metal classic with their eponymous debut. Taking their Satanism to a new level of seriousness, Benton was burning crosses into his forehead and desecrating churches to promote this album, something that didn't exactly endear them to the mainstream metal media. While similar (and even weaker) groups were getting hyped up as the leaders of the death metal underworld, this album struck a chord that would, for good or bad, instantly inspire legions of like-minded groups. The riffs are actually memorable, with insane blastbeat drums and an uncanny sense of timing guiding the songs as they charge through one by one. "Lunatic of God's Creation" may be one of the best death metal songs written in this period, taking all of these elements to their natural extreme and crafting an ugly Satanic epic. "Carnage in the Temple of the Damned" is a speed-happy chunk of blasphemy that borders on grindcore, while "Dead by Dawn" is another gem that survives on the creative riffing and horrible vocals. Benton's vocals are actually one of the main features, as his guttural growl is touched up by production tricks to ...

$14.25 This onslaught of ever-shifting double-bass and extreme guitar riffing is considered by many to be an essential (if not the premier) example of Deicide's world-class death metal. While bassist/vocalist and bandleader Glen Benton never accepted the categorization, his band helped define the early '90s death movement with their somewhat ...

Stench Of Redemption album
$10.75 One of the most infamous and censored death metal bands ever, Cannibal Corpse celebrates their 10th album with one titular sentiment: KILL. That's pretty much what it does, too. KILL reminds us who put the death in death metal, combining relentless and intense sounds with lyrics that couple Grand Guignol thrills with slasher-film ...

Stench Of Redemption music CDs
$12.15 Propelled by a frantic speed-streak not seen this side of Texas' Speedealer, Seattle's Zeke straddle that fine line between hardcore and speed metal on their sixth album -- and first since getting back together as a slimmed-down trio -- Til the Livin' End. Produced by alternative rock guru Jack Endino, the album's "15 tracks in 30 minutes" approach kind of says it all about both the band and their music; but before you automatically envision the Ramones (they're here as well, but mostly in spirit), think Motörhead gone hardcore, since tracks like "Long Train Runnin'," "Hold Tight," and the very "Metropolis"-ish "Dragonfly" all recall the immortal Lemmy and his charges. The agonized howl of singer/guitarist Blind Marky Felchtone is partly to blame there, but really, no complaints. And frankly, who knows if Motörhead ever achieved the shocking velocity of Zeke's "The Hammer." Other than that, it's rather remarkable to hear Felchtone effortlessly driving the Zeke bullet train -- rounded out by the so-tight-it's-stoopid rhythm section of bassist Diamond Jeff Matz and drummer ...
