| | Lic Flight 808 - The Ticket CD (2006)
Go Get It album
$16.45 Close your eyes and imagine taking a flight on the hottest musical ride from the Midwest to the durrty South!. With LIC at the controls, he takes you on a powerful journey through his roller coaster life as a young, tough Chicago street kid to a professional hustler's life in Hotlanta.Born on the infamous Westside of Chicago, LIC's earliest memories of music were the R&B albums that his mother would play as well as what he heard on the radio. He quickly became fascinated with hip-hop and had a burning desire for songwriting. His love and appreciation of music eventually led him to writing and perfecting his many styles of rhymes. Full of determination, LIC relocated to Hotlanta where he and his business partners formed LIC World Entertainment, LLC. On his debut album, Flight 808 - The Ticket, LIC encompasses the journey from his native Chicago to his Inauguration as an ATLien. LIC captivates the mind and soul of his audience by intertwining graphic tales of the city street bravado of a young hustler mixed with the perpetual struggle to keep his soul intact, all the while using the gritty inner city streets of Chicago to serve as a backdrop to his musical canvas. The album's first single, 'Switch Da Flow' is a southern-styled anthem that begs to be chanted long after you leave your favorite club at four a.m. The track resembles a Classic Cutlass Supreme screaming to be viewed by onlookers, yet never breaking the self imposed two mile per hour speed limit. Complete with flawless money green paint and ballistic white walls, the innocent bystanders can only stop and gawk in amazement, as the track leaves them totally hypnotized. However, if the track is comparable to a Cutlass, then LIC has to be Iceberg Slim himself. Navigating through the west side of Chicago or Atlanta's east side, with a gansta lean so ferocious that it threatens to throw him to the slow moving asphalt. But with a chronicle that Robert Beck could never narrate, LIC hover's slightly above the track exhaling lyrics of mere mortal interest until such time as words of omnipotence seem more appropriate: 'finally a rapper with some sense and a style 2fuck ya style ya say ya wild but I don't like uya claim ya choppa bussin shots well you's a liar toopublicity stunt just to get you on the latest newsAs Flight 808 gets closer to its Atlanta destination, we see the progression of a street -wise kid into a self assured young man. His flows, beats, and rhymes are now immersed in the 'duurrty' south mentality, capable of rocking any club on Peachtree while staying true to his native environment. In The Hook, which proclaims 'I'm so cooooooooold! Switch the flow get the dough, nigga' is filled with self esteem and is definitely testosterone-driven. But it is sure to have the most honey coated dime piece echoing the sentiments of the Chi town native, as it's infectious groove knows no gender. 'Switch' comes to an apex in the second verse as one of LIC's personas, The 1-2 Bandit, crescendos into a ...

| | Unusual Suspects Coney Island EP CD (2007)
Go Get It album
$7.99 After having disappeared for the latter part of 2006, The Unusual Suspects are back with their new record, the "Coney Island EP."The record is a collection of songs, all of which were written after the release of "Phonograph" in 2005. "I'm very proud of how this record has turned out," says vocalist/songwriter matt megrue, "lyrically, I feel like we have taken a new direction. I think this record is a little more darker themed just because of some of the things this band has endured over the last few years."Since releasing "Phonograph" in 2005, the band has toured relentlessly, sharing the bill with such bands as Sugarcult, Hawthorne Heights, Early November, Shawn Mullins, and Flickerstick; however, the past two years have held many trials and tribulations as well."We had our share of producer troubles, money troubles, personal problems, you name it and we have probably been through it. We had our spells where a lot of us really weren't getting along, but that happens when you're around the same people for that long. But we pushed through it, and I think we've come away with a really strong, focused record," says megrue. The album's opening track, "Ms. Steal" is an interesting take on an unrequited love for an adult-film star."That song was a funny song to write just because it was one of those songs that writes itself. I like to try and keep a little bit of a sense of humor when I write as well, and this is one of those songs," says megrue."Ms. Steal" is followed by the trippy and almost shoegazer "Something to Believe In.""'Something to Believe In' in contrast is a very dark song. I wrote this song a few years ago when I was really struggling with who I was, with where I was, and just figuring out what I believed in. I'm not going to lie and say I've got it figured out now because I still don't have a clue. This song was just my way of exercising some demons I think.""People, Pills, and Problems" is a raw rock song that sees The Unusual Suspects at their most natural."'People..." is a song I wrote a few years ago about someone who was ending a bad relationship...so bad that that it was affecting his every-day life. He wasn't able to function or concentrate or do all the normal things you have to do every day to get by."Track 4 ("Coney Island Lullaby") sees The Suspects expand their sound using piano, slide, and multi-layered guitar work to create their sonic ode to Coney Island."In all honesty, I've never been to Coney Island...but in my defense, I probably know it better than people who have been. I really researched this place for a long time while I was writing this song, and in a way I'm glad that I didn't go. I see Coney Island with a weird sense of nostalgia and mysticism and I don't know if I would still feel the same if I actually visted it before I wrote the song."The final track on the record, "Last American Rock and Roll Band" is eight minutes of pure rock and roll. The song is a glimpse into the stuggles of being in a touring band, the music industry, ...
