| | Bucky Halker Step 'N Blue CD Bucky Halker Discography of CDs
I call this the 8-track special. We recorded this batch of songs during my bar band days in Northern Wisconsin and we did the recording in a friend's 8-track studio. Ah yes, those were the days. Straight-ahead bar blues with some country and folk material I did back then as well. All said, there's some strong songs on this recording and some good performances as well. On Wisconsin . . . About the Artist:Bucky Halker was born on the shores of Lake Superior in a worn-down iron ore and lumbering town. Since leaving his hometown at 18 he's done a lot of everything! A veteran songwriter, guitarist, and frontman, he has a dozen recordings to his credit, most of which feature original songs. His two most recent CDs, Don't Want Your Millions and Welcome to Labor Land, however, feature his interpretations of working-class labor protest songs. Deeply grounded in the history of American music, Halker's music has always drawn heavily from folk, blues, bluegrass, R&B, country, roots rock, rockabilly, and honky tonk. That he gets lumped in the Alt Country/Americana category is amusing. He's been doing that kind of music for thirty years! Halker regularly tours Europe as a soloist and with his band, the Complete Unknowns. Three of his CDs have been released in Europe on Brambus Records. A historian with considerable credentials, he has a PhD in US history and has published extensively on labor music, pop music, and working-class history. His book, For Democracy, Workers and God: Labor Song-Poems and Labor Protest was published by the University of Illinois Press in 1991. He currently lives in Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. Step 'N Blue CD music
$14.79 Flatwound is a Southeastern Connecticut band made up of five guys who live to play the Blues. It is a collaboration of five people with one goal, to write their own music and not go the way of other cover bands in the area. Flatwound emerged from a weekly outlet to relieve stress. Mike Jones hailing from North Stonington CT on lead guitar, really rips it up with his background in theory and days of burnin it down with Rock. Tate Tomis from Preston Ct. on rhythm guitar adds smooth and sultry tones sings backup vocals and writes lyrics. John Cripps on bass with 30 years of experience is a talented player comes through with thundering tones and smooth solid base lines also joins in as backup vocalist and lyricist. Gary Paul of Norwich Ct is the man who takes those lyrics and sends them wailing has a background alternative and other genres. Bill Hewes from Pawcatuck Ct, the drummer, keeps it all in beat, and is the backbone of the group. Each has varied skills and a myriad of talents that melt in the musical cauldron that the world can now call Flatwound. Since they originated, they have worked hard to find their true musical identity and unique style. Though their influences are scattered though all musical genres, they collectively feel that all blues musicians are considered influential. With that said, this band plays no cover music. Their music is truly their own. It also belongs not only to them but to music lovers with an open mind. The band is assisted by a road crew consisting of Richard Cripps who sets up also sings back up vocals, Clint Verville who does sound lighting recording and back up vocals and Wendy Lloyd communication coordinator, sales promotions and an occasional lyric . Steppin' Out is their first release and doing fantastic. It is a live recording without an audience. No Artificial fillers or flavoring added. Their main hope is that you have as much fun listening to them as they had during the two years of all pitching in on writing rewriting and recording their original tunes. It's Blues with a different flavor. Since the cd's release it has been recieving air time on the Saturday and Sunday morning Blues shows ...
