You might remember the flattering review I wrote on the first album a couple of years ago. And now the band, led by keyboard player Ted Stockwell, is appearing on the scene with their new CD entitled Spinning. With the first CD, we saw a band with infinite capability to write and execute excellent compositions. With the new CD, it is confirmed. Spinning highlights even more of the superb abilities of these five musicians from Seattle. The music on this CD is even more incredible than in the past. Omnipresent and majestical keyboards, sharp and rockin' guitars, and a powerful rhythm section, precise as a Swiss watch, are the basic ingredients of the Treason sound. To these elements are added vibrant and powerful vocals. Which brings me to this point - much of the success of this CD is due to the joining of the new and extraordinary vocalist Jason Saunders. With his rich tone, power and range - his voice is incredible. It is warm and gritty and, in my opinion, is the rock voice of the new millennium. The twelve songs on this CD are a delicacy for the ears. The mix and sound have been well attended to. The production is equal to that of any major, which adds to the success of this work. To appreciate this CD, it would be enough just to hear the second track, "Last Stand." After a rich and powerful intro, it explodes into a breathtaking refrain that will get stuck in your head. The magnificent "Cycles," which reminds us of Queensryche from the Empire era, with a mysterious atmosphere, would be fitting for radio airplay. The musical lines in "State of Grace" will carry you away with a simple and effective chorus, which makes you realize the great value of this album. As with their last album, Treason has hosted many well-known musicians. This album is no exception with the dreamy and nocturnal ballad "Cold Tears," where the mythical voice of Ann Wilson from Heart appears in the 'duet of the year' that will put you into a dreamy trance. As I have said, the new CD is on an elevated level of quality. Don't hesitate to make Spinning yours, because in my opinion, it has already entered into the top ten list of the year 2003. Leah Morise's BiographyBy turns brash and beguiling, Leah Morise's music is hard to categorize. When asked to describe her sound, she uses the term "genre crossing," a mix of folk, contemporary, jazz and blues. "I never really know in advance what's going to come out. The genre selects me, the songs appear in the style THEY want."A multi-instrumentalist, this soprano plays acoustic guitar & electric bass. Her mother played the guitar, and Leah got her first guitar at the age of 12. She talks about how life gives you lessons you often don't want: "I used to sing with my mom, and I learned to play by ear. In 1988, my mom got cancer of the larynx. To combat the disease, she had her larynx removed, which meant she was unable to sing. So, in a way, her voice is carried on through me."But if you should think that this means that Leah's playing sad songs, you'd be mistaken. The former self-described "Chatham farm girl" - now Londoner -is far more likely to laugh than cry, and her music reflects this sensibility. You can hear this laughter and joy in many of her songs; just try to listen to the infamous "Panty Song" without giggling. She's influenced by everything she hears, from the music at church to random conversations with friends. "When most people are dreaming, I'm writing," Leah says; her muse makes late-night calls, often between midnight and 3 a.m. Inspiration also occasionally hits while she's driving. "I have a tape recorder in my Jeep, and when I get an idea, I'll turn on the tape and start singing. I've got a lot of tapes with road noises on them. I've also had a song come to me when I didn't have the recorder. Those are the days that I get home to telephone messages from myself singing." ...
