gary has written songs and performed them in calfornia coffe houses halls and bars for twenty plus years. now that all four kids are raised and on thier own, he has more time to focus on getting the music out. he is amazed and thankful for the high caliber musicians that have helped on this project and made commitments to help on the next cd that he hopes to release sometime this year. this project was a learning experience for sure but the quality and content is well worth the listen. Flickering Flame music CDs
$17.09 "Mary Sue Twohy's airy soprano is well suited to material that straddles the fine line between traditional and contemporary folk; on the latter front, she's like a graceful, guitar-strumming Sarah McLachlan." -Richard Harrington, The Washington Post, 2005Songs to Hang on Stars, the new CD from Mary Sue Twohy (pronounced too'-ee) will release January 1, 2006 from Azalea City Recordings. This third album from the acclaimed singer-songwriter is an eclectic mix of acoustic folk-pop (the graceful title track "Songs to Hang on Stars") and traditional (the haunting civil war song, "Missionary Ridge.") Luminaries Jon Carroll (Mary Chapin Carpenter), Dede Wyland, Pete and Maura Kennedy, and Scott and Jen Smith (Naked Blue) bring instrumental virtuosity and angelic harmonies to Mary Sue's new compositions. Tracks include love songs ("Whole New View"), fresh new settings of Emily Dickinson poems ("'Twas the Old Road," and "Because I Could Not Stop For Death"), a capella ("The Ghost of Matt McCann"), and heartfelt meditations on loss and hope ("Baltimore"). Weaving through the album is the promise of new ...

| | Lea Coryell Cornbread & Rum CD (2001)
Flickering Flame album
$16.45 Lea Coryell plays and sings acoustic folk music - chiefly traditional and public domain, but not exclusively. "A lot of the music," he says, "comes from people who work with their hands for a living - farmers and sailors. I identify with that." Lea spent many summers helping his father inscribe tombstones while growing up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Both his parents were raised on farms. Coryell usually accompanies his singing with clawhammer banjo, and sometimes with guitar and harmonica. He also sings a cappella and performs instrumentals. Coryell appears on two earlier recordings: "Red Leaf" (cassette, released 1992) and "The Reston Folk Club Presents" (cassette, released 1988). "Cornbread & Rum" is his first solo release. Coryell has performed music since 1985, mostly in Northern Virginia and around the greater Washington, D.C., area. He performs as a solo folk singer and in a duo with Arlington-based singer/songwriter Joan Kennedy. For ten years he was a member of the band Red Leaf (with ...

Flickering Flame music CDs
$12.69 I was born and raised in California. At the age of fifteen, I realized that I wanted to be a singer. I told my dad, and he brought me a guitar and a Bob Dylan songbook. To this day I do songs by Bob Dylan that I've never heard done by him. I like to think that he'd appreciate my renditions. I started performing by wandering up and down the strand, a sidewalk that runs along the beach from Manhattan to Hermosa. Later, I performed as a street musician at the Redondo Beach Pier. It was there that I learned to project my voice. I'd spot people from far off and draw them to me as I sang!In 1976 I spent some time at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Agoura. My friend Carmen Cicotti had an uncle, Michael Rugg who sold his Capritaurus dulcimers there. We would hang out in the booth and play the instruments. At the end of the summer I gave Michael all my savings (I think it was about $40), and he sent me a dulcimer from his shop in Felton, Ca. I got married in 1977 and had two daughters. By 1984 I was single, and left southern California. I had two more daughters before I married my second husband. Later I had two sons with him as well.Throughout the years, I wrote many songs. At first I used the guitar and dulcimer for melodic inspiration, but I came to declare myself a frustrated musician. I gave myself permission to continue to create songs without instruments, by simply singing what was there for me. Sometimes I would sit down with my guitar and a chord chart and try to find the chords, but it was a painstaking process. I created few performance opportunities, singing a song for someone only if I was really inspired and thought it would be well received! In 2003 I participated in The Landmark Forum (landmarkeducation ). It was during that educational process that I realized how stingy I had been with my gift. I became determined to find a way to share the songs I have inside me, knowing that they have the power to inspire!I had read an article in the local newspaper about a musician known as Screaming Jimmy Townsend. I knew he would be my teacher. We worked together and he helped me regain some confidence in my guitar playing and put some chords to about fifteen songs. As time went on he told me his goal was to teach himself out of a job with me, and he also declared himself a fan of mine. I did become somewhat independent, but he moved away before his job was complete. I still miss him!I had started playing at open mikes and parties around town, and sharing my songs at seminars and at spiritual centers. I also joined the Sierra Songwriters Group, 'Works In Progress'. People were asking for my CD, so I began visualizing having that available as I continued performing ...
| | Tom Wilson The Heather And The Sagebrush CD (2007)
Flickering Flame songs
$18.99 Once upon a time, there was a man with way too many instruments, a rather short attention span, a strong do-it-yourself streak, one very patient wife, several very talented friends, a fascination with the music of Scotland, and an overwhelming love of the wide open spaces of Wyoming. This CD is the result. Nothing too fancy; nothing too polished. Just home grown, home-made, hand-crafted, straight-shooting Rocky Mountain Celtic music. The first track, "The Mountainous Set," evokes some of the feelings that come from being in the high country, starting with the quiet and contemplative, moving to the intense and dangerous, and finally ending with a majestic depiction of a Tom's favorite trail in Wyoming's Wind River Range. The album is full of stories of the wild country. ...
