"Opening for The Devil's Own at the Rite Spot Cafe, Sara Corrigan, singer from Dolly Rocker, seemed out of place among the slightly brighter than blood red walls and candlelit, speakeasy atmosphere, with her open smile and sheepish, down-home mannerisms. And though I was there to review the more forthright country rock of The Devil's Own, I was glad I was early enough to see Corrigan. Her voice has a refreshing, delicate quality, reminiscent of a light rain shower during a desert stroll. 'Won't you miss me?' she sang in a smoky whisper. 'Wouldn't you miss me at all?' ... I missed her already." In the summer of 2003, writing for the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Duncan Scott Davidson so reviewed Dolly Rocker's singer/songwriter, performing live in her native city. On Dolly Rocker's debut album, "Hello, Dolly Rocker!" (2001), the addition of a lead instrument-- the violin played by Jim Gaylord-- and minimal bass and drums (Sean Chikki and Niels Myrner, respectively) simply enhance the Nico-esque vocal lines. The album's slow moodiness has drawn comparisons to the Low/Dirty Three "In the Fishtank" collaboration, released the same year. Hello Dolly Rocker! Music Hello Dolly Rocker! Hello Dolly Rocker! songs
$13.65 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success ...

$12.69 Guitarist-bassist NEPO SOTERI is an African citizen-of-the-world, both in terms of his life journey and musical vocabulary. As a singer, composer and virtuoso instrumentalist, his trademark sound is an esoteric but accessible amalgam of influences from his past and present, an inventively forward-looking yet folklore-based mix that raises spirits while falling smoothly on the ear.Mr. Soteri was born in Rwanda, a small, hilly, landlocked nation located in the Great Lakes region of east-central Africa, and grew up in Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia. “We were always singing and drumming -- that was in the culture,” he recalls of his boyhood, “My mother encouraged me at all times, so I started singing in church choir as a boy.” He most admired the local watwa tradition, whose practitioners played music incessantly, as he has since done all his life. His first performance occurred at the age of ten, when he sang and danced before the President of Tanzania. Later, he would hear Tanzanian Taarab, a suave, big-band blend of African, Indian and Arab elements, crisp, throbbing Kenyan Benga groups, and Ethiopian pop, in which the rolling, jagged tempos and five-tone melodic structures typical of Amaharic-language traditional sources and American R&B were fused into one of Africa’s most thrilling styles. As Congolese radio was ubiquitous on the Continent, he became a fan of that nation’s wildly popular, guitar-driven, rumba-based grooves. “When we moved to Tanzania, I started listening to Congolese music,” he says, “Tabu Ley Rochereau was so wonderful! I loved all the beautiful harmonies and the guitars -- it was all I thought about! Then we moved to Kenya and there was so much music of all kinds there, including many bands from Congo -- I was in heaven!” He was also influenced by Nigerian superstar Fela Kuti and the groundbreaking African-Caribbean combo, Osibisa. But Western artists were also being heard and he soon developed firm favorites among these, too. American jazz and R&B legends like Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Stevie Wonder attracted his attention but certain rock artists also appealed to him. “I thought I had ...

Hello Dolly Rocker! songs
$16.39 richard murrey put together a local, spacecoast, brevard county version of the chevy ford band with two of the area's finest musicians, dave evans and phil brewer. this incarnation of the chevy ford band would be far different from the complexities of the nashville band. this band played out live, played heavy with minimalistic styles, straight ahead rock and roll. the 3 piece played lounges and bars with tons of cover tunes, but they did squeeze out 10 originals within their first year playing out. these recordings are rare, live and mixed to be played loud, so crank it up and enjoy. it's possible this combo could put it all back together depending on what murrey's chevy ford band does next. here's what's on the platter..."high on toad"... as it is out west in the desert, the chase for the elusive little psychedelic secreting toad is always a game on. dave evans came up wih the riff structure, murrey on the bass run, phil brewer added his creativity on the skins to murrey's lyrics."let's eat ...
