The Rochford Jazz Ensemble CD "CHRISTMAS with rochford jazzRochford Jazz, (Jim Szana, Clacie Neu, and Lonnie Schumacher) is an instrumental trio consisting of piano, drums, and bass, that plays popular, recognizable music, with their own arrangements and in their own unique style. The music of their 5th CD Christmas with Rochford Jazz includes straight swing classics like "I'll Be Home For Christmas" & "White Christmas", as well as their arrangements of well known Christmas Hymms, religious and non-religious favorites.Rochford Jazz is a member of the South Dakota Fine Arts Touring Roster and has been since 2002. The band has played for President Bush’s reception in Sioux Falls SD in 2002, and although they have performed as far from home as Boulder CO & Lincoln NE, they generally play locally in central and western SD. The band traveled to Rio de Janeiro in early 2003 to study Latin music at its roots, and was invited to play at a club and private party in Rio.Jim was the 2004 “Guest Musician” for the South Dakota Acoustic Christmas concerts and recordings and SD Public Radio aired a live ROCHFORD JAZZ concert in 2005 from Deadwood’s Franklin Hotel. In real life, Jim is a dentist (Dentistry at St Charles in Pierre and an office in Murdo), Lonnie is a handyman (Lonnie’s Home Work), anc our old drummer Clacie works for Chris Supply in Rapid City , The group likes to feel that they play music that people can tap and hum along with; that listeners can carry on conversations with friends while still enjoying familiar tunes with interesting arrangements and melodic content. Their danceable music is best described as mainstream easy-listening popular and standard jazz instrumental with a “splash of class; think of champagne and red high heeled dancers.
