Better Things To Do album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and ...

Better Things To Do music CDs
$11.35 Sarah Dougher has been working as a musician, writer and teacher for over ten years. She has released eight records on independent labels with her solo work and her collaborative band projects, touring internationally, and receiving press coverage in publications from the New York Times to Rolling Stone. In January 2001, she had a residency at New York's Knitting Factory. For the past three years, she has been working on a song cycle entitled Harper's Arrow, that grew out of a project grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, the Portland area's primary arts funding organization. This 16-song cycle explores themes from Homer's Odyssey which are palpable in the context of contemporary war and representations of war (particularly through news media and film). This piece was performed at the Portland Institute of Contemporary Arts TBA Festival in 2003, as well as at national venues (Ladyfest Texas, Knitting Factory LA and NY, Queer is Folk Festival, Chicago). She is currently creating electronic re-mixes of this music.Dougher's last two solo records were released on the now-defunct Mr. Lady Records, and ...

Better Things To Do CD music
$10.15 Rufus John has a new approach to old soul. He has taken the best of two worlds, the edginess of today's music and the steadfast emotion of Motown, and brought them together. The result is a funky, fresh sound layered over an old soul backdrop, a slick fusion that can only be described as undeniable. As a young child, Rufus charmed others with his gregarious personality and his booming voice. He began singing at the tender age of 6 and by the time he was 10 he and his oldest sister Natasha sung along to the radio or cassette tapes around the house. Eventually Rufus and Natasha teamed up with family friend Trishannah to form the trio NRT they would perform in many different churches and concert venues over a six year time span. The three were regular performers at high school assemblies, talent shows and cultural events throughout the K-W area, often collaborating with other local acts. Rufus proved to be a natural on stage, giving high energy performances that showcased his versatility as an artist. So naturally he branched out of the group to pursue a solo career. Early in his career, Rufus was the charismatic front man for The Motor Booty Affair, a Kitchener-Waterloo band that reinterpreted cover songs from a funk/soul perspective. The band, which also included Juno award winner Miranda Walsh of Mystic and Miranda, toured Montreal, Toronto, Collingwood and surrounding areas which help garner an enthusiastic local following. He also participated in the nation-wide televised talent search Popstars 2: Boys Meet Girls and made it to the top 15. In a defining moment of his singing career, he left the show to pursue his solo act. In addition he was a finalist in the 2004 and 2005 'Rhythm of the Future Talent Search' hosted by Kitchener-Waterloo's #1 Hit Radio Station 91. 5 The Beat. On his upcoming EP, Rufus has concocted a mix that he says is 'only for grown folks. ' Into the pot he has thrown gospel, hip hop, funk, jazz and Latin, a meld of many flavours that sizzle into one good, solid heaping helping ...

Better Things To Do album
$31.45 The conception of Girlicious is both laughable and brilliant at the same time. Following the hysteria of reality television and the hype behind the sultry Pussycat Dolls, the creation of the television program Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious came about. The show, which hoped to capitalize on the success of the aforementioned multi-platinum quintet, was about creating a new, fresh, girl group whose success would be in the urban pop market, as mentioned by creator of the project, Robin Antin. The term "project" must be used here, since the final product of the show, the formation of this new quartet called Girlicious, is nothing more than a well-oiled, made-for-market package whose aesthetic beauty is both in harmony, and even more so, in appearance. On their debut release, the four girls involved, Natalie Meija, Nichole Cordova, Christina Sayers, and Tiffanie ...
