The original film is packaged here newly remastered and with new special features including alternate endings, fact track, featurettes, filmmaker commentaries, and more. A replusive, decaying figure with razor-sharp appendages (and an even sharper sense of humor!) suddenly appears in the dreams of four Los Angeles teenagers. It is the ghost of Freddy Krueger, a suspected child murderer killed long ago by the neighborhood parents. Now he's able to exact his bloody vengeance by killing the teens off, one by one, as they sleep.
Finally just one girl remains. Desperately, she tries to stay awake by every means possible, but even pills and massive amounts of coffee wear off sometime -- and when they do, she'll have to battle Freddy for her very life.
It's her worst nightmare ... and it's coming true. A hellish, razor-fingered monster enters the dreams of the teenage residents of a bucolic town and systematically slaughters them in their sleep--until one courageous young woman does battle with the predatory fiend. An excellent, surprisingly surrealistic genre entry from the master, Wes Craven. Both Elite Laserdiscs (EE3734 & EE3733) are limited to editions of 5,000 units.
Color by DeLuxe.
Budget estimate $1.8 million.
Released in USA October 31, 1984.
The film's original running time was listed at 150 minutes, it is now listed at 91 minutes.
Feature film debut for actor Johnny Depp.
Although he directed only the first film, director/writer Wes Craven's "Nightmare on Elm Street" continued to fascinate horror movie buffs. Subsequently, four more films were made, all of them featuring Robert Englund as the infamous Freddy Krueger.
The movie also led to a television series called "Freddy's Nightmares."
Rated BBFC 18 by the British Board of Film Censors.

Nightmare On Elm Street Video Nightmare On Elm Street Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews CLASSIC A Nightmare on Elm St is one of the most intelligent and innovative horror films of the 80's. Wes Craven once again proves that he is the greatest horror director of our time with this classic film which employs young teens who get slaughtered in there dreams by the infamous Boogeyman known as Freddy Krueger, the most notorious serial killer ever depicted on film. A low budget film which showcases a tremendous feeling in style and innovation but still maintains the typical horror elements which make the 80's horror fan appreciate the film. The film is loaded with blood and guts and contains the traditional horror film elements of teens having sex and doing drugs and paying for it. Wes Craven likes to stick within the rules of the horror genre. This film featured Johnny Depp in his first feature role and Heather Langenkamp was a great choice to play the main lead. This film wouldn't be classified as a masterpiece, but it is definitely one of the most famous horror films ever made. Everybody knows who Freddy Kruger is. He is the most notorious boogyman ever on film. His humour and style make him better than Jason, Michael and even Chucky. Freddy Kruger is in a class of his own. He is so popular with modern culture and is still being referenced in pop culture, such as The Simpson’s and various movies. I advice this DVD for any horror fan. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. All of the sequels are jokes and failures, with the exception of Nightmare 3. Submitted by Joey 34 (L.A California) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Legendary Freddy Kruger is one of the classic horror villans of all time. Anybody who is a fan of horror knows who Freddy Kruger is. He first appeared on screen in 1984 and 24 years later, he is still talked about by fans and in mass media. He is a legend in the boogeyman saga. He is without a doubt the best killer in movie history. He kills his victims with innovation and with such style. He has a great humourous side to him which makes him not only evil but funny. He's better than Michael Myers, Jason Vorhees and any other horror legend you put infont of me. This is truly one of the great horror classics of the 80's. It was just so well done and the plot was just sheer intelligence. No matter how many Freddy movies are made, nothing will be able to top this one. That's why Wes Craven is so smart in the horror genre. He knows when something is going to work and A Nigtmare on Elm St worked and became the greatest horror franchise in history. Nightmare On Elm Street review
$9.85 IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS is John Carpenter's foray into the world of H.P. Lovecraft and surreal horror. An insurance investigator (Sam Neill) is sent to find a missing author, Sutter Cane (Jurgen Prochnow). As he comes closer to finding the author, things start to change around him, and soon nothing is what it seems. Madness seems to be the normal state of things, while reason and sanity have no place in this new world created by the mind of Sutter Cane. Carpenter plays with changing perspective, making the audience aware thay they too are part of the story, and maybe, just maybe, this is not just make believe. The story is very ambitious in its attempt to put a whammy on the viewer's imagination, but ...

Nightmare On Elm Street movie DVD
$8.05 Veteran slashers Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees join forces in this combination sequel to the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog the town's memory.
Jason is up to the task, quickly dispensing with teenager after teenager in suburban homes, cornfields, medical labs and, of course, the forest. Freddy grows ...

Nightmare On Elm Street video
$10.29 With his 2006 remake of Wes Craven's 1977 slasher THE HILLS HAVE EYES, French director Alexandre Aja manages to accomplish what many directors fail to do by making his film a definite improvement over the original. With Craven on board as producer, Aja sticks pretty closely to the first film's script and storyline, but with the help of a larger budget, special effects, better actors, and slick cinematography, creates a much scarier story. While the film's setting is contemporary, it maintains a 1970s feel in parts, paying tribute to the decade in which the slasher subgenre was born. With an interesting opening-credit sequence consisting of actual nuclear testing footage, we are told that the film's desert setting was the site of nuclear testing during the 1950s and ‘60s. Warned to vacate, the miners that lived there refused to leave, thus subjecting themselves to high levels of toxic radiation, and breeding mutant babies as a result. It is this generation of now-grown mutants that the poor Carter family has the misfortune to encounter while driving through New Mexico on their way to California.
When their vehicle breaks down in the desert, the Carters are ...
