| | Mac Arnold & Plate Full O' Blue Nothin' To Prove CD (2006)
Rough Texas Rockin And Boppin Billies music CDs
$12.15 Mac Arnold & Plate Full o' Blues: Austin Brashier (guitars, background vocals); Max Hightower (slide guitar, harmonica, piano); Mac Arnold (electric bass).
Although he had played with some very renowned blues names back in the 1960s (and later served as the original associate producer for Soul Train), bluesman Mac Arnold did not get around to issuing his own album until 2006, with the arrival of Nothin' to Prove. Unlike his next album, 2008's Backbone and Gristle, Arnold sticks mostly to singing here (with some bass work as well), as his trademark "gas can guitar" does not make any appearances. But for expertly played modern-day blues-rock, Arnold (along with his backing band, Plate Full o' Blues) has automatically leapfrogged to the front of the line with this inaugural release. Arnold also proves to possess a truly authentic blues-worthy voice, as heard on such standouts as the title track and the autobiographical "Ghetto Blue." Arnold has learned the blues first-hand by some of the genre's all-time greats, and his musical lessons have not been forgotten, as evidenced throughout Nothin' to Prove. ~ Greg Prato
"This is old-school at its finest.Torch-bearer Arnold and his cohorts keep the flame burning brightly on one of the BEST TRADITIONAL BLUES ALBUMS OF THE YEAR!" BLUES REVUE Magazine 2005 "Mac Arnold has a muscular vocal style that knocks me out !" JAZZNOW Magazine 2005 Mac Arnold must have known at an early age that his music career would read like a "Who's who" of Blues/R&B legends. His high school band "J. Floyd& the Shamrocks" were often joined by none other than Macon, Georgia native, James Brown on piano. After deciding to pursue a professional music career, he joined the Charles Miller group until 1965 when he made the move to Chicago to work with recording artist/saxophonist A. C. Reed. In late 1966, at age 24, came the opportunity of a lifetime to join the Muddy Waters Band and help shape the electric blues sound that inspired the rock and roll movement of the late 60's and early 70's. Regular guests of the band included Eric Clapton, Paul Butterfield, Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop. The Muddy Waters Band (as a unit) shared the stage with the likes of Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed, Junior Wells, Big Joe Williams, and Big Mama Thornton ("Hound Dog") just to name a few. ...

The fruit of a one-off collaboration between ex-Deep Purple bassist/singer Glenn Hughes and journeyman guitarist Pat Thrall, Hughes/Thrall is full of the energy of early-'80s rock. With lyrics like "You got the power/Turn on the light" sung in best Ian Gillan fashion and buoyed by relentless grooves and Thrall's virtuosic guitar, ...
