5 stars Awsome!!!
My friend had taped Witches Brew years ago for my sons to enjoy, but the tape became worn out from so much use and the boys became men. I can't tell you how excited I was to find it still existed on CD. I bought two. One for my granddaughters and one for me to keep in the car to play for the girls when they come to my house. They had it all memorized by the end of the day and they loved it. They wanted me to put the player on repeat so they could hear it over and over. Thank you so much for your excellant service. Witches' Brew

Live Recording Producers: Phil Ramone, Bruce Ricker, Clint Eastwood.
Recorded live at Carnegie Hall, New York, New York on October 17, 1996. Includes liner notes by Richard B. Woodward.
At a Carnegie Hall concert, Clint Eastwood's love of jazz and use of it in many of his films was saluted. The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, a string section, and many jazz all-stars participated. Since there was a lot of spontaneity in the performances, some things worked better than others. This two-CD set (which has inexcusably microscopic liner notes and personnel listings) contains most of the music, which ...

Oop Shoop - The Flair & Modern Recordings
Shirley Gunter Oop Shoop - The Flair & Modern Recordings CD  (2005) (Import) United Kingdom

Witches' Brew
CD $16.99
Shirley and the Queens are generally considered to be among the first female R&B groups, and pivotal to the 'girl group' sound that was soon to be embellished by the likes of the Shirelles, Marvelettes ect. Her later work with her brother Cornel's group, the Flairs, represents the apex of 1950's west coast rhythm & blues. This collection features every single recording that Shirley made for Modern and Flair, and 2 later singles notwithstanding, pretty mush represents her recording career in total. Almost 70% of these tracks have never been reissued on CD, 4 have never been issued at all. Oop Shoop itself is a bona fide Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame classic, and the rest of the tracks here, the emphasis for which is very definitely on the upbeat, are not even slightly shabby by comparison. 26 total tracks. Ace. 2005. Shirley Gunter recorded with several groups on the Modern label and its Flair affiliate. This 26-track CD rounds up all of the singles she cut with the Queens, Maxwell Davis & His Orchestra, Monroe Tucker & His Orchestra, and the Flairs between 1953 and 1957, adding four previously unreleased demos. Gunter has undoubted importance as one of the first solo female rock & roll vocalists, and the first one to sing lead on a hit R&B doo wop single by a female group. However, neither that nor her strong voice disguise the average nature of most of this material, which is fairly standard mid-'50s Los Angeles R&B vocal group fare. That 1954 hit single, "Oop Shoop" (with the Queens), is the most memorable cut, with its shuffle beat and full group backup vocals. Its B-side, "It's You," sounds like it could have made it under its own steam, with its playful weave of lead and background voices and jazzy arrangement. "Baby, I Love You So" (also with the Queens) is in a similar vein, but for the most part, this falls into the ...
