| | Kelly Richey Speechless CD Kelly Richey Discography of CDs
Occasionally, on the Kelly Richey Band's all-instrumental album Speechless (get it? So have Albert Lee, Bruce Cockburn, and many other artists making vocal-free recordings.), sparks fly and you want to believe. This happens on "The Longest Road," on which blues-rock guitarist Richey's soaring, melodic lead lines escalate, change course, fly off someplace else and rise yet again. And it happens on "Only the Bird Knows," on which Richey takes to her acoustic guitar and deftly balances the instrument's inherent gentleness with serious rhythmic muscle. But mostly it just doesn't happen. For too much of Speechless, Richey and her rhythm section -- bassist Jimmy V and drummer David Clawson -- trod and plod. That is to say they trod on familiar territory (Stevie Ray Vaughan fans will often feel déjà vu) and plod through arrangements that never quite get off the ground. While the decision to make an instrumental album was a noble one indeed, the lack of vocals, rather than serve to draw attention to the musicians' proficiency or the properties of their interactions instead makes most of Speechless feel like backing tracks. Richey is obviously a talented guitar slinger, but she's lost for original ideas here. And the bassist and drummer are powerless to save her; drummer Clawson is particularly wooden throughout. It would not be surprising to learn that these same tunes have the potential to rile up a bar crowd, but the studio setting only points up the been-there-heard-that nature of the music. ~ Jeff Tamarkin With Speechless, Guitarist Extraordinaire Kelly Richey Has Something To SayCINCINNATI, OH - With the August 8 release of her new CD, Speechless, on Sweet Lucy Records (distributed nationally by Select-O-Hits), guitarist/vocalist extraordinaire Kelly Richey returns with her first new studio album in five years. Kelly has won multiple awards, played on stage with Lonnie Mack and Albert King, toured internationally, and as Blues Revue stated in a review of one of her earlier albums, 'She's overflowing with confidence and the kind of star power that can't be faked. ' Speechless is worth the wait, as this latest project marks yet another achievement in Kelly's diversified musical career. It's a truly remarkable effort that fulfills a dream of the Cincinnati-based artist to write and record an all instrumental album that pays tribute to many of the guitarists who have both inspired and influenced her throughout the years: Roy Buchanan, Jeff Beck, Al DiMeola, Pat Metheny and Michael Hedges. On Speechless, Kelly salutes several of her guitar heroes with nine songs that demonstrate the breadth of her playing. Among the many standouts, are the opening track, 'One Day We'll Feel the Sun,' with a clear nod to Jimi Hendrix; 'Is There Any Reason,' which recalls the tones of Roy Buchanan; 'Climb the Highest Mountain,' with its Joe Walsh/James Gang influences; 'Stand Alone,' played in the Lonnie Mack style; and 'Without a Trace,' which will remind listeners of the Eric Clapton/John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers sound. Speechless represents a different perspective, an added dimension of Kelly Richey and her new band. The songs are fresh, mature, at the same time staying true to her unique ability to emote and express the passion in her playing. All songs were written and recorded in the new Sweet Lucy Records studio, Underground Playground, by Kelly and her band: David Clawson on drums and "Jimmy V" Valdez on bass. She continues to evolve as an artist and has never limited her guitar playing to only one style or genre; instead she has played straight from the heart, weaving blues and rock together expressing both the pain and the joy of life. Kelly Richey's trademark when performing live is to take no prisoners, laying it on the line, giving everything she's got with each and every performance. It's paid off for Kelly and her band, winning numerous Cincinnati awards as best blues band, best rock band, best local musician and best local ban Speechless Music | List Price | $17.98 (You save $3.89) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs, Blues | | Label | Sweet Lucy | | Orig Year | 2006 | | All Time Sales Rank | 144387 | | CD Universe Part number | 7242512 | | Catalog number | 1136 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Aug 15, 2006 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Kelly Richey | | Engineer | Rick Andress; Kelly Richey |

Purchase Speechless CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Warren Zevon Life'll Kill Ya CD (2000)
Speechless album
$13.39 Though he would eventually succumb to cancer in 2003, on this 2000 release life hadn't killed Warren Zevon just yet, though scrapes with doom inform LIFE'LL KILL YA's sensibility, and Zevon responds with his trademark gallows humor as well as a surprisingly lighter touch. Here, the excitable, piano-pounding artist surrounds himself with acoustic guitars, harmonicas, and pennywhistles; concise simplicity is the order of the day, and this sense of economy allows lines like "I can see me bound and gagged / Dragged behind the clown mobile" some breathing room. The arguable red herring is a bizarrely ...
| | Warren Zevon My Ride's Here CD (2002)
Speechless CD music
$15.59 Tony Levin (bass); Anton Fig (drums); Jordan Zevon, David Letterman, Ariel Zevon (background vocals).
Warren Zevon's first release on the Artemis label, LIFE'LL KILL YA, stripped down his sound to bare bones, exposing in sharp relief his sardonic wit and undeniable songcraft. The follow-up MY RIDE'S HERE manages to return to the forceful, full-band rock sound of Zevon's salad days while keeping the quirky songwriting knack intact. Whether Zevon is singing about the violent exploits of a hockey player "Hit Somebody! (The Hockey Song)" or musing about Albert Einstein's way with the ladies ("Genius"), his knack for combining decidedly original (some might go so far as to say odd) subject matter with visceral rock riffs and catchy pop hooks remains intact. Zevon hasn't made the upper decks of the charts since the days of "Werewolves ...
| | Deep Purple Who Do We Think We Are CD (1973)
Speechless music CDs
$16.15 After establishing itself as a hard-rock giant, thanks to endless touring and the release of such milestone records as MACHINE HEAD and IN ROCK, Deep Purple was in a state of turmoil when it went into the studio to record 1972's WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE? Despite all the infighting, the band pulled together long enough to record seven tracks that only bolstered the band's reputation.
The best-known song, "Woman From ...
| | Moody Blues Question of Balance CD (1970) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Germany; SACD Hybrid; United Kingdom
Speechless songs
$17.35 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
The beautifully remastered version of the Moody Blues's 1970 back-to-basics album (translation: they cut way back on the overdubs) strips away the original aural murk at last, and includes informative liner-note interviews with the band about the recording process. Standout tracks include the classic sort-of protest song "Question" and "It's Up to You," one of singer/guitarist Justin Hayward's most authoritatively wistful riff-rockers.
There is a clear attempt to pare back the lush excesses of their earlier work in favor of a leaner rock sound, as heard on cuts like John Lodge's pell-mell "The Tortoise and the Hare." Still, one of the album's standouts is Ray Thomas's "And the Tide Rushes In," a lovely psychedelic ballad of the sort that moved the Who's Pete Townshend to remark that the Moody Blues' albums were so gorgeously produced that listening to them was like "being in church." A QUESTION OF BALANCE is a fine album, and a clear preparation ...
