| | Left Alone Dead American Radio CD Left Alone Discography of CDs
The West Coast punk rock band's second album is an agreeably varied collection of Clash-influenced country raveups, frantic ska, and anthemic singalong choruses. The declamatory "The Sinner" nails the band's punk rock colors to the mast, while "Every Night"'s crowd-pleasing chorus is underpinned by vintage Farfisa organ and floorboard-rattling bass, and the title track echoes both the Clash and Elvis Costello in its sneering hostility to corporate pillaging of the nation's airwaves.

| | Roger Miret 1984 CD (2005)
Dead American Radio music CDs
$11.49 Don't say Roger Miret is tiring. 1984 is the veteran hardcore punk frontman's second solo record, and it's released concurrently with Agnostic Front's latest bludgeoning effort. While AF remains committed to the confrontational N.Y.C. hardcore aesthetic, Miret's side work with the Disasters looks to the boozier swagger of the Business, Sham 69, and contemporaries like Dropkick Murphys for influence. (Al Barr joins the gang chorus for "The Boys.") But don't get confused. 1984's throwback sound is loose and lively, but Miret still brings the sweat-blood passion that's always defined Agnostic Front. And that's what helps him get away with well-worn lad-rallying titles like "Riot, Riot, Riot," "Loud and Proud," and "Street Rock n Roll." Of course, Miret himself is well-worn, and 1984 is shot through with references to how it used to be. On "Lower East Side," a scarred punk realizes that his pride alone won't stop gentrification. The title track also recalls those good old days, with Miret's nasally yawp spitting lyrics of both anger and reminiscence. ...

Dead American Radio songs
$12.49 Every punk band, by definition, brings a sense of urgency to its music. Left Alone, however, take that impulse several steps further, smacking out their songs like there's no tomorrow, a truly unlikely proposition for a group with two EPs, two split albums, and two full-lengths already to its name. They bring this headlong feel to everything they do, a reflection of their own D.I.Y. ethos and a long history of pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps. Signing to Hellcat hasn't changed a thing -- if anything, Left Alone seem to be working even harder to prove they haven't softened their stance or sound. Not to fear, it's still razor-sharp, as the Aloners storm across a baker's dozen of incendiary tracks, rubbed raw by the reverberations of punk past. But in true new-school fashion, even though the bandmembers studied hard at the feet of their progenitors, they don't merely regurgitate what they've learned, but twist this knowledge to their own ends. Thus, "Heart of Mine," a country-punk love song, suggests Social Distortion without ever sounding much like them, while "My 62" tweaks the Ramones while pogoing a paean to singer Elvis Cortez's beloved car. On "Another Feeling," ...

With 1981's suitably named Allied Forces -- their fourth worldwide release and fifth overall -- the three members of Triumph put aside their differences and collaborated more seamlessly than ever before, fittingly delivering what is arguably the best album of their long career. Like the previous year's particularly intense Progressions of Power, and with the possible exception of a rather forgettable new track, "Ordinary Man," the pedestrian mid-paced rockers that had sometimes derailed previous Triumph albums were conspicuously absent here, replaced by snaggletoothed heavy metal carnivores courtesy ...

Dead American Radio songs
$12.25 Colette is both a highly celebrated house DJ and a startlingly fine singer who generally works in a house-electro style. But the release of her second album generated such a buzz that she began touring with a full band, which is a good thing -- as good as she sounds in a fully electronic setting, a human ensemble would give her even more flexibility. Still, her sophomore excursion into techno-house balladry is at least as good as her first one was, and features both solid songwriting (always a welcome surprise in any dance music genre) and her exquisitely sexy vocals. Some ...
