| | Donny Hathaway Collection CD (1990)
Soulifications music CDs
$8.05 Unfortunately, Atlantic's A Donny Hathaway Collection, one of the few career retrospectives available (and basically the only one in print), isn't quite definitive; it presents a version of Hathaway's career inordinately focused on his commercially successful duets with Roberta Flack, and his slowest, most dirge-like solo recordings. A few of his best up-tempo tracks are represented ("The Ghetto," his live cover of "What's Going On"), but not before haunted material like "I Love You More Than You'll Ever ...

| | Ellen Gomez Company Of Angels CD (2004)
Soulifications songs
$18.99 The Company of AngelsRecorded, mixed and mastered at EARS Studios, Fenton, MOGentle and revealing, Ellen Gomez bares her soul in this, her debut album, "The Company of Angels." Opening with Parallel Trains, this song picks up steam quickly with a folksy blend of guitar, dobro, fiddle, mandolin and harmonica, the perfect song to start her first recorded musical journey. Upbeat and wonderfully arranged, Parallel Trains prepares us for the beautiful music that is just around the bend. With lyrics as honest as a confession, Gomez lets us know that she relies on her sensitivity and love of nature to carry her through life's difficult moments. The title song, The Company of Angels speaks of experiencing a moment of clarity at a sad time, when she believes that she is being watched and loved by angels that hover near and by. Just as unexpectedly and revealing, Basho's Waltz is a delightful instrumental, with a violin and guitar that dance together during ...
| | Johannes Linstead Mediterranea CD (2004)
Soulifications album
$14.19 There's no denying the fact that Johannes Linstead is a superb guitarist with excellent dexterity. And on the basis of "Motika," he's also an accomplished pianist with a feel for Cuban rhythm. Add to that the taste to surround himself with players of a similar caliber, especially violinist Vasyl Popadiouk, who shines on the opener "Andalucia," and the technical quality of Linstead's fifth CD is assured. There's certainly a warm, lush feel to the disc, with guitar front and center, exactly as it should be. ~ Chris Nickson

| | DNA Vibrators The Shape Of Things To Have Come And Gone CD (2007)
Soulifications CD music
$12.65 The DNA Vibrators are veterans of the Southern Illinois University (SIU) music scene, in Carbondale, Illinois. Comprised of The DNA Vibrator on bass, vocals, drum sequencing, and guitars, The Hand of God Attachment on lead guitar, and Mr. Kamikaze on drums, this side project gone awry packed clubs wherever they went in the 1990's, but dropped off the map in 1995. The DNA Vibrator had not stopped making music; it had simply burrowed underground to allow some ideas to ferment. In 2004, The DNA Vibrators returned for a live show that proved the old guys still had it. In September of 2006, recording began on a new project. By January, 2007, the project had reached the right proof. And here it is. Mr. Kamikaze might be known to some of you as a former member of the Blue Meanies, and current drummer of the Chicago noise outfit, Nonagon. The Hand of God Attachment is a classically trained guitarist who had an incident with a priest---Judas Priest, that is! The DNA Vibrator is the brains of this whole operation, which explains the level of worldwide success and adoration achieved by the band in the 12 short years they have been together. The songs run the gamut from the personal to the public, the silly to the sublime. There's a little something for everyone who likes to have their alternative rock served unpretentiously with a little wit and midwestern twang on the side. The name DNA Vibrators has much less to do with a sex toy and much more to do with the apparent dichotomy that a person's biological imperative to, uh, you know, and a mechanical device's ability to achieve the, uh, goal, of the biological imperative, well... how these things come together, and then how things get sticky, and...anyway, how biological need and mechanical whim produce the same response...is kind of weird, when you think about it. That's the idea the DNA Vibrators is going for: Kind of weird, when you think about it. Much more could be written in this bio, but instead of wasting another moment on my opinion, listen to some of the tracks presented here and form your own. If you like what you hear, buy it. Then, the songs are yours to annoy your friends with. Buy multiple copies and receive a discount. If you want to know more about The DNA Vibrators, or hire them for your next bar mitsvah or rennaisance fair, or figure out where they fit in to the Carbondale music scene, please visit the-dna-vibrator , The Shape Of Things To Have Come And Gone. Listen to old songs, read the blog, the comic book! and so much more! Previous releases available for FREE on the website include selections from the albums, "Twin Rockets ...
