I believe making music is about making connections. We're all here together, sometimes we get to reach each other in some pretty profound ways. Life is fun- and SHOULD be! Music combines soul, math, harmony and ideas and converts it all into sounds, and eventually feelings that we get to share as a community. If I can touch-off or recieve a spark from someone else - I've just made a little magic.. I LOVE that. Sean Goffin music CDs
$14.79 Johnny Shines was far from predictable. Though he recorded his share of inspired electric dates, he had no problem turning around and delivering a stripped-down, all-acoustic Delta blues session like Too Wet to Plow. Recorded in Edmonton, Canada in 1975 and reissued on CD by Concord Jazz's Blues Alliance label in 1996, Too Wet to Plow finds Shines in excellent form. His solid accompaniment includes harmonica player Sugar Blue and bassist Ron Rault, as well as guitarist/singer Louisiana Red (a superb bluesman who isn't nearly as well known as he should be), and Shines clearly has a strong rapport with them on "Red Sun," "Traveling Back Home," and other highly personal originals. Although Shines' own songs are dominant, one of the album's high points is an interpretation of Robert Johnson's "Hot Tamale." Highly recommended. ~ Alex Henderson
LABOR RECORDS IS PROUD TO Re-INTRODUCE A LANDMARK RECORDING BY ONE OF THE TRUE BLUES GIANTS:JOHNNY SHINES "TOO WET TO PLOW" featuring LOUISIANA RED and SUGAR BLUE"To say that this is one of the very best and perhaps the finest Shines album is also to say this is one of the classic blues releases of the 1970's - a masterpiece." - Bob Rusch, RUSCH ON RECORDS(the original ROLLING STONE review)"Too Wet to Plow" captures the brooding, unrepentant passion of the Mississippi blues like no music I've heard in years. It's a record Johnny Shines, born in Memphis in 1915, has had in him for a long time: an unelectrified, completely personal statement that speaks as well for the cutting power of country blues in the late Seventies as Muddy Waters' Hard Again did for that of Chicago blues. Robert Johnson, Shines' mentor and the greatest of all country blues artists, called the blues a heart disease, and that's what "Too Wet to Plow" is - the disease and the cure.""Too Wet to Plow" has the power of such blues, but the point of view is different. Working with LOUISIANA RED (guitar and harp) and SUGAR BLUE (a superb young harpman from Brooklyn) or alone, Shines communicates not rebellion but acceptance. It's as if he's gone far enough, grown old enough, to believe that in some essential way he won't be beaten; that from now on, the battle with life will be on his terms, or at least on terms he has long understood. There's great tension in the music, but there's an unbreakable peace, too - not peace of mind so much as peace of soul. The music comes out of a no man's land that is also a hometown.Shines offers a house built right on the edge. It's his voice that builds the house, it's his guitar that defines the edge. On "The Wind is Blowin'," "Moanin' the Blues" and - with grace not received from God but snatched from Him - "You Better Turn Arround," Shines plays the most spare, softly echoing notes imaginable. The guitar seems to shrink from the singer's pronouncements (as ...

Sean Goffin songs
$18.99 As a young child living in England with his mother and musician father, Marc Von Em had much exposure to London's exploding music scene. At the tender age of 5 he was hooked on Rock & Roll. After moving back to New York and wearing out his father's ukulele, Marc's parents reluctantly rented him a guitar, and he learned to squeeze what music he could out of a $10 a month Sears six string. Finally, after proving his dedication by two years of practicing, they bought him a guitar of his own. By his early teens, Marc became strongly influenced by his older brothers' record collection. CSNY, Bob Marley and Janis Joplin were just some of the artists he loved. This, coupled with his father's passion for the blues, quickly motivated Marc to begin writing songs. In fact, you will still find his first song, Sunshine Kid, on his set list today. Throughout High School, College, and beyond, Marc continued to write music, and performed in many original projects. In 1999, Marc produced & released his first solo album entitled Von Em. Driven by his acoustic guitar playing & soulful voice, this album was well received by critics & fans alike, and created quite a buzz on the local music scene. Living in New York's Hudson Valley, Marc was in perfect proximity to many great venues. The Bottom Line and The Living Room in New York City took a special liking to Marc, and he played at both venues regularly. Marc continued to deliver his brand of groove oriented folk from Massachusetts to Philadelphia, appearing at well known venues such as the Iron Horse Music Hall, Club Passim, Cafe Lena, The Tin Angel & The Acoustic Cafe. Playing these clubs, as well as other small bars and coffee houses, Marc managed to independently sell 8000 copies of his debut CD. One of these CD's ended up in the hands of a New York City jingle house, and Marc's voice was soon singing "This Bud's for you" on Budweiser's 2000-2002 TV and radio ad campaign. Most recently, Marc produced & released his second studio recording ...
