Peyote songs have been sung in Gerald Primeaux's family for five generations, so it's something he's absorbed since birth. These songs of healing complement that peyote idea beautifully, and the a cappella arrangements for Primeaux and two other singers are discreetly lovely, quiet and wonderfully soothing. In fact, it's only on the final cut that he returns to the tradition for "Four Peyote Songs" delivered with drum and rattle behind the voice. He sings in both Dakota and English, but his approach to English in what are so obviously Native American songs is interesting, framed in a very traditional style, making them seem almost out of place and foreign, so you feel you're hearing the language for the first time. A surprising and elegiac album. ~ Chris Nickson Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs Music Gerald Primeaux, Sr Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs Songs Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs Music Review Purchase Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Colosseum Morituri Te Salutant: 1968-2003 On Stage & In The Studio CDs (2009)

Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs CD music
$12.59 As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. ...

| | Rough Guide To The Music Of The Himalayas CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs songs
$13.49 Subtitled "Sounds From Shangri-la," which could erroneously scare off anybody who ever sat through the ghastly 1973 musical remake of Frank Capra's Lost Horizon, Rough Guide to the Music of the Himalayas gathers together a varied assortment of music from the high altitudes and plunging valleys of Tibet, Nepal, and Ladakh. Centuries of geographical and political isolation have preserved some traditions virtually intact, while others have been exported to the West via the perceptions of well-meaning and/or culturally rapacious musical tourists. The 13 tracks range from folklore and devotional styles to the sort of new age pastiches one imagines might cling to the inner ear of a frost-bitten, oxygen-deprived Sherpa somewhere on Mount Everest. Wisconsin-born guitarist Steve Tibbetts supplies a pair of the latter. He sits in with a husky sweet-voiced singing nun named Choying Drolma, and if the resulting collaboration has its ...
| | Holly Valance State Of Mind CD (2003) (Import) United Kingdom
Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs album
$30.19 STATE OF MIND by Aussie pop star Holly Vance contains 12 songs, including "State of Mind" and "Roll Over."
The list of Neighbours stars turning their hands to pop music range from the sublime (Natalie Imbruglia) to the ridiculous (Stefan Dennis). The latest Ramsey Street escapee, Holly Valance, certainly leaned toward the former with the colossal success of her Eastern-flavored number one "Kiss Kiss." But while parent album Footprints dipped its toes into several genres with mixed results, for album number two Valance has headed straight for the kind of pure electro-pop that countless other female artists have ...

| | Wyrd Sisters Wholly CD (2006)
Voice Of A Dakota: Harmonized Healing Songs album
$13.75 Formed by Kim Baryluk in 1989 as a casual gathering of friends sharing songs and stories in the best folk tradition, the Wyrd Sisters -- whose straightforward blues/rock grooves and catchy melodies are anything but weird -- they're rather compelling -- are longtime Winnipeg favorites and highly decorated Canadian folkies. But folk may be a misnomer because Baryluk's haunting vocals are backed by elements of jazz, blues and rock, in addition to solid pop/rock production that is anything but gentle and acoustic. Their history leading up to this multi-faceted, socially conscious fifth recording is impressive. They have enjoyed performances across the continent, from folk festivals to concert halls to full symphonic backing; ...
