| | Al Hirt Jazz A-La Carte CD Al Hirt Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Al Hirt was the leader (along w/ Pete Fountain) of the 1950s/1960s New Orleans Traditional Jazz revival. Recorded for the Southland, Audio Fidelity, RCA and Monument labels in his classic 50s, 60s, 70s heyday. This title is a great companion to Hirt's "Dixieland" or "Trad Jazz" releases, as these are his later more mainstream Pop performances. Lush Orchestral and Big Band arrangements. Some of his best Country, Jazz and Pop recordings. Contains his biggest hit "Java". Pristine sound quality and digital remastering. | | Peter White Good Day CD (2009)
Jazz A-La Carte CD music
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists ...

| | Very Best Of Artie Shaw CD (2001)
Jazz A-La Carte songs
$7.59 This RCA Victor compilation features some of Shaw's finest work spanning the years 1938-1945. As such, it's an interesting document in the history of World War II America. All 18 tracks are meticulously annotated, and Loren Schoenberg's biographical essay is a gem -- well-written, insightful, and free of banality and cliché. As for the music, it's classic swing, with performances by Billie Holiday, Buddy Rich, Roy Eldridge, and many more. The sound is top-notch by reissue standards. Shaw's masterful clarinet is a powerful presence, but there's also the writing and arranging to consider: Gershwin's "Summertime," Thomas Griselle's "Nocturne," Shaw's "Concerto for Clarinet," and Eddie Sauter's "The Maid With the Flaccid Air" take some pretty innovative turns, balancing out more pop-oriented fare like "Begin the Beguine" and "Deep Purple." (The latter would become a theme song of sorts for Marie Osmond some 35 years later.) The inclusion of three barnstorming radio broadcasts from 1939, "Everything ...
| | Small Brown Bike River Bed CD (2003)
Jazz A-La Carte album
$9.25 Midwestern rockers Small Brown Bike rip through ten blistering examples of their hybrid hardcore emo and heavy punk on their 2003 release, River Bed. Double-tracked vocals, occasional harmonies, and discordant guitars are punctuated by lightning-fast stops and angular bridges, allowing the band's raw emotion to be offset by genuinely interesting song structures and instrumentation. Deftly produced by Dave Feeny, the album sounds bright and well-defined, somehow evading the murkiness that many ...
| | Severe Torture Bloodletting CD (2005) (Import) Import; United Kingdom
Jazz A-La Carte CD music
$18.39 Those who have a limited knowledge of the death metal/black metal field will tell you that all of it sounds alike. But truth be told, death metal has a variety of bands -- some totally extreme, some more melodic and accessible by mainstream standards. Bands that are categorized as melodic death metal (At the Gates and In Flames, for example) have -- much like symphonic black metal artists -- made melody, musicality, and intricacy a priority. On the other hand, grindcore is death metal at its most extreme -- and grindcore is exactly what Severe Torture provide on this live album. Bloodletting is stereotypical grindcore -- harsh, unmusical, amelodic, ultra-fast brutality with twisted lyrics and deep, guttural, growling vocals that usually render those lyrics indecipherable. Stylistically, this Dutch band is right out of Cannibal Corpse and Carcass, and the song titles (which ...
