Tabla Recital film
$9.09 Principally recorded at Ocean Groove Studios, Miami Beach, Florida and Mediterranneo Studios, San Jose, Ibiza from 1996-1997.
The third album from the Barcelona Tribe of Soulsters (German producer Claus Zundel, or "The Brave") leaves its predecessors' predilection for German techno beats and English vocals far behind. Instead, the emphasis distinctly moves from the dance club to the bedroom, aided by Paco Fernandez's flamenco guitar. "Alegria" benefits from a slow, captivatingly steady beat that gently and unceasingly propels Fernandez's impassioned arpeggios and Arrantza Aida's wailing vocals. The title track marches steadily in the manner of Ravel's "Bolero" towards a climax just over the hill, and is in no particular hurry to get there (what lover would have it any other way?). "Tribute to J.S. Bach" expertly blends a dying flamenco guitar with mysterious, ominous synth noises to profoundly melancholy effect. All in all, this ...

| | Laura Pausini Primavera In Anticipo CD (2008)
Tabla Recital movie DVD
$13.79 Italian vocalist Laura Pausini became a worldwide sensation during the first 10 years of her recording career (although her success in America is minimal compared to Europe and Latin America). PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO, released in 2008 in both Italian and Spanish versions, extends Pausini's command over the adult contemporary form, offering up 14 tracks that play like foreign-language versions of Celine Dion or Phil Collins. Like Pausini's previous releases, PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO is layered with glossy production, over which the vocalist gives passionate, dramatic performances. Highlights include "Invece No" and "Primavera in Anticipo," a duet with James Blunt.

Tabla Recital film
$14.95 When sweet, straitlaced cop Chris Anderson (Luke Perry) and his self-destructive, live-wire wife, Pam (Ashley Judd), begin to experience financial difficulties, Chris secretly turns to a life of crime to pay the bills. Chris becomes so good at robbing banks that he and his troubled spouse are soon living in the lap of luxury. Pam discovers his new line of work just when he wants to get out--and she wants in.
Director John McNaughton, who previously used well-known actors playing against type with great results in MAD DOG AND GLORY, once again adds emotional depth and satiric bite to his film by casting Judd and Perry--both at the height of their status as 1990s icons of youth and beauty--in the lead roles. The young stars' glamorous veneer gets burned away by the directorial skills of the man responsible for HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, and Judd and Perry--perfect as the struggling young couple longing for nothing ...
| | Gilgamesh - Vol. 1: Orphans Of The Apocalypse DVD (2003)
Tabla Recital review
$26.05 Director Masahiko Murata seamlessly incorporates elements of ancient mythology into a futuristic epic of post-apocalyptic chaos in his sci-fi anime GILGAMESH. Sometime during the 21st century, a terrorist act destroys a scientific research facility built over the tomb of the ancient Sumerian king Gilgamesh. Occurring on October 10th, the catastrophic event is dubbed Twin X (for its date, 10-10) and produces an earth-wide electromagnetic imbalance that transforms the sky into an undulating swirl of color known as "the Sheltering Sky." As war, famine, and disease wreak havoc on the weakened planet, two supernatural forces engage in a life-or-death struggle for world domination: Orga, a band of mutant psychics led by a mysterious countess; and Gilgamesh, an army of winged assassins under the charge of the evil scientist who triggered Twin ...
