Twist in the Myth album Product Description
Twist in the Myth album by Blind Guardian was released Sep 05, 2006 on the Nuclear Blast (USA) label. Blind Guardian fans have grown accustomed to waiting long periods between the band's studio albums, which these masters of German progressive power metal tend to deliver only every four years or so -- much like World Cups, curiously enough. That was precisely the gap separating 2002's A Night at the Opera, which dismayed some longtime fans with its nearly symphonic, unusually complicated compositions, and 2006's A Twist in the Myth, which establishes something of a middle ground between that trend and the group's slightly more approachable earlier material. Twist in the Myth songs Of course Blind Guardian, by any era or definition, can still be counted on to inject enough pretentious pomp into high-flying metal anthems such as "This Will Never End," "Straight Through the Mirror," and especially album standout "Turn the Page," to make Ronnie James Dio pull out his fantasy almanac, get Freddie Mercury nodding in posthumous approval. Speaking of ol' Mercury, "Carry the Blessed Home" marries Queen-sized guitar and vocal orchestrations to BG singer Hansi Kürsch's recurring extrapolations on Stephen King's Dark Tower novels; and his reading habits are given even further disclosure on the likes of "Otherland" (inspired by Tad Williams' novels by the same name) and the Celtic myth-inspired "Skalds and Shadows." In fact, it's hardly surprising to find just one song -- the psycho-analytical "Another Stranger Me" -- that might actually be (emphasis on "might") entirely based on real-world experience, not that the band's fans would have it any other way. Twist in the Myth CD music contains a single disc with 13 songs. ...See Full Description

| Take it or leave it... ...either way this album isn't an essential one and it probably won't make it back into the rotation for my CD player any time soon. This all-too-talented band seems to think more is better and there seems to be no limit to that. Maybe after listening to this enough that it becomes mindnumbing you can hear the basics at work; otherwise you're doomed to being flooded by all the layers of sound and the other layers that get completely lost and muddled. The 50 tracks or so on the last album were eccentric but this album has only taken it to a new level. I'm absolutely lost here and the bottom line is; I don't think there's anything worth it if you get to the bottom of it. -O By ollie2112 (Sarnia, Ont) |

| Very different Definitely not as impressive as previous albums and lacks a lot of the Blind Guardian essence but still a very enjoyable album. I like it a lot but not compared to any of their earlier albums. It would happen though that I saw them play live last night in Melbourne, where they played 'Fly' and 'Skalds & Shadows' from this album and I can say without a doubt that both are impressive live, especially Fly! | RIP Blind Guardian Yes folks it is sad but true, BG as at least I used to know them are dead. I discovered this band through Demons & Wizards first album. It was a joint effort by members of BG & Iced Earth. It blew my mind, so I went out and bought everything by both bands, BG's earlier stuff was great power metal, but since Night at The Opera, they have not made anything that resembles metal as I know it. This album is unfocused and so damn over-produced it is unlikely any of it can be played live. Big Disappointment. Dont buy it. Hanzi... go back to the roots brother. By Frank (Cleveland, OH) |
