See for Miles' Fever Tree/Another Time, Another Place combines Fever Tree's first two (and best) albums on one compact disc. While this is certainly of interest to collectors of '60s psychedelia, most listeners will be satisfied with one of the group's hits collections. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| Fever Tree/Another Time Another Place Music Review Average Rating: (3.7 out of 5 stars) another texas band enchanted by west coast psychedelia This reissue of psych-rock quintet Fever Tree's first 2 LPs on a single CD offers another instance of a Texas band captivated by the Bay Area sound of psychedelia, ca. 1967-69. Other Texas-originated bands that went this route included FT's Houston contemporaries the Moving Sidewalks (precursors to ZZTop) and the Austin freak band the 13th Floor Elevators, fronted by lysergized legend roky erickson. The Steve Miller band, which was San Francisco-based but led by two transplanted Dallasites, Miller and Boz Scaggs, can be considered members of this category as well. The sound is a bit pretentious and ponderous at times, but the classic psych-pop anthem "San Francisco Girls" holds up. Submitted by mbrachman (evanston, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
1st Album a classic From Houston, to psychedelia via songwriters twice their age. Wow. Awesome, unfortunately stuck on UNI label in the late 60's. These guys should have ripped it up nationally. Fever Tree(1st) is from beginning to end excellent, #2 is very good but like all their subsequent releases not equal to the 1st. Submitted by rkbetts (Carlisle, Pa.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Very Dated Sounding This 2-fer has a few decent cover tunes on it, but overall is pretty unlistenable. It's CD release does prove one thing. If this kind of material can get a CD release, then there is still hope for a lot of good music out there that has yet to make it to CD! Submitted by srt (MS, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Fever Tree/Another Time Another Place CD music
$6.79 (MP3 Available for Download) Before David Gilmour virtually "became" Pink Floyd he was always the most likely member of the band (with the possible exception of de-facto leader Roger Waters) to release a solo album. 1978's welcome eponymous debut showcased his multi-faceted performing talents.
The album opener "Mihalis" is an ANIMALS period instrumental, which, along with "Raise My Rent," sounds like an outtake from that album. The beautiful "There's No Way Out of Here" begins with a lonely harmonica and, with "No Way" and "I Can't Breathe Anymore," expounds the album's main theme of being trapped in an untenable situation. "Cry From the Streets" is a nod to the blues, while the lovely "So Far Away" ...

| | Slumber Party 3 CD (2003)
Fever Tree/Another Time Another Place MP3 Album
$12.65 (MP3 Available for Download) While Slumber Party have mostly taken an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach to their dreamy sound, on the aptly named third album 3, the group does introduce a few small changes. Dion Fischer's warm, hazy production gives songs like "Air" a familiar, well-worn feel, but starting with "Electric Boots" -- on which Aliccia Berg intones "gotta put my boots on," evoking a blissed-out Nancy Sinatra instead of the usual Nico comparisons -- the emphasis is on the band's rock-oriented side. Indeed, "No Sleep Tonite" boasts some electric pianos and a fuzzed-out guitar that are definitely brighter and more energetic than Slumber Party's usual fare, but the song doesn't disturb the group's stylishly sleepy feel. "New Trouble" is one of the most ambitious songs the band has put to tape: a mix of stiff drum machines, rubbery guitars, distant laughter, and oddly disaffected singing, it definitely tweaks the band's usual formula. While lines like "Detroit's burning all around" could carry more menace, the song still has a winningly playful mischief. When Slumber ...
| | Coco B's Fast Trak Holy Nova Symphony CD (2003)
Fever Tree/Another Time Another Place music CDs
$12.89 This split from Parasol contains work from two California outfits, Coco B'S and Eskimohunter. For its part, Coco is quite adept at the crackling, slightly distant indie pop typical of labels like Parasol or Cali's own Darla. The duo never really outruns their influences (Eels; Yo La Tengo), or even their peers -- there are plenty of home studio assemblers hybridizing organics with flitting electronics, and singing softly and flat over the clean-lined result. Still, the world can always use another warm and fuzzy ditty equating ...
| | Richie Furay I Am Sure CD (2005)
Fever Tree/Another Time Another Place songs
$13.05 It's no surprise that this CD sounds a lot like a lost Poco album -- beyond being the work of Richie Furay, it also features Jim Messina, Paul Cotton and Rusty Young; add to that the presence of such renowned figures as Chris Hillman, Jimmy Ibbotson and Jeff Hanna, and you've got not only an intersection with the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band, but also a recording with roots deep in first-generation folk-rock-cum-country-rock. And pretty much that's where this album comes down, on the country-rock side of gospel music (or is it the gospel side of country music?). Furay's goal here was to create an album of American worship songs -- he became a Christian rocker some years ago, and has very effectively merged those two parts of who he is on I Am Sure, his lyrics drawn from the Bible, but the obvious sincerity and inspiration behind much of what's here is genuinely moving; as a singer as well as a musician, Furay knows how to wrap a melody around a psalm and make both of them count for something bigger than their individual parts. Even more ...
