Principally recorded at Smartso Digital, Studio City, California, Oceanway Studios, Hollywood, California, Studio Masters, Los Angeles, California, Sun Studio, Memphis, Tennessee and Entourage Studios, North Hollywood, California between 1991 and 1998. Includes liner notes by Cindy Hazen.
Johnny Rivers' first album of new material in nearly two decades, 1998's LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS is a fine collection of Rivers originals and the usual batch of oldies reinterpreted in that inimitable Rivers way. Rivers first made his name with his residency at the Whiskey A-Go-Go on Sunset Strip, and it's probably not a coincidence that this album's leadoff track is called "Down at the House of Blues," after the 1990s mass-market pretender to the Whiskey's long-vacated throne.
Another Rivers original, the weepy "Don't Let the Rain Come Down" is a fine new track. A cover of the Casinos' "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye," and a tribute to Carl Perkins built on a "Blue Suede Shoes" that interpolates bits of other Perkins classics, are as good as any of Rivers' '60s covers. One of the best interpretive singers of his age, Johnny Rivers knows how to work a song.

Last Train To Memphis album
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra ...
| | Very Best Of Deep Purple CD (2000)
Last Train To Memphis CD music
$7.79 Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep).
Rhino Records first attracted notice for its ability to assemble good, well-thought-out, best-of and greatest-hits compilations of acts who had enjoyed a chart placement (or two) without ever getting a proper hits package from their own labels; a little later Rhino started their "Very Best Of" series, which managed to be medium-weight but pretty thorough overviews of a lot of major acts (especially in R&B) from the past that needed a fresh look. But in 2000, when they released The Very Best of Deep Purple -- a band that needed no helping hand in the exposure area -- in conjunction with Warner Archives, that was something new for the company. And damned if Deep Purple and their fans, casual or serious, didn't benefit stunningly from Rhino's usual excellence on this CD. For one thing -- and this is pretty amazing -- this disc, with nearly 80-minutes of music, was the most thorough and thoughtful overview of the band's work ever released in the United States; EMI may have come close in England with Singles A's & B's but the sound here is better, to put it mildly. ...
| | Vanilla Fudge Then And Now CD (2004)
Last Train To Memphis music CDs
$13.49 The title of the album is Then and Now, and a sticker on the front of the CD's jewel box proclaims, "The greatest hits! The best collection ever! Includes 3 new songs!" The clear implication to the potential buyer is that this Vanilla Fudge album contains the original 1960s recordings of such hits as "You Keep Me Hangin' On," along with three recently recorded tracks. But that is not the case. Then and Now is an entirely newly recorded album on which the 2004 edition of Vanilla Fudge -- bassist Tim Bogert, guitarist Vince Martell, drummer Carmine Appice, and organist Bill Pascali (replacing original member Mark Stein) -- recreates its versions of songs that ...

Last Train To Memphis CD music
$11.95 Recorded between October 25 and 27, 1991 at Sun Studios, Memphis, Tennessee.
Recorded in 1998, a year or so after LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS, which had been Johnny Rivers' first release of new material in over 15 years, THE MEMPHIS SUN RECORDINGS was, as the title indicates, recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. The 20 tracks are largely chestnuts from the classic Sun catalogue, from "Mystery Train" (more Elvis than Junior Parker, of ...

Last Train To Memphis music CDs
$30.49 After issuing three consecutive studio double LPs, Chicago topped themselves with this four-album live box set. As the title suggests, At Carnegie Hall, Vols. 1-4 (Chicago IV) (1971) finds the band at the venerable New York City venue during a five-night stand (April 5-April 10) in the spring of 1971. The septet -- which includes the respective talents of Terry Kath (lead guitar/vocals), Robert Lamm (keyboards/vocals), Peter Cetera (bass/vocals), Danny Seraphine (drums), Lee Loughnane (trumpet/vocals), James Pankow (trombone), and Walter Parazaider (woodwinds/vocals) -- were at their unquestionable peak of initial popularity. Their previous three double LPs continued extended runs on the ...
