| | Diana Krall From This Moment On CD Diana Krall Discography of CDs
(9 Customer Reviews)
With a track list that includes "Little Girl Blue," "Willow Weep for Me," and "Isn't This a Lovely Day," one might worry that Krall is treading too-familiar territory here, but the Canadian singer puts her distinctive stamp on each of the 11 compositions. The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra provides some serious swing on the uptempo numbers, but it is Krall's gorgeous, melancholic ballad treatments that steal the show.
On 2006's FROM THIS MOMENT ON Diana Krall returns to both a repertoire of classics and to her big-band sound, and the move feels like something of a homecoming. Krall's vocal and piano performances ring with authority and elegance throughout; her subtle and sultry approach sounds effortless and unmistakably artful at once.
Personnel: Diana Krall (vocals, piano); Anthony Wilson (guitar); Robert Hurst (bass instrument); John Clayton (bass guitar); Jeff Hamilton (drums); The Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
Entertainment Weekly (p.78) - "[S]unnier than usual....John Clayton's arrangements add bounce and pack punch." -- Grade: B+ Down Beat (p.80) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "FROM THIS MOMENT ON finds her swinging through 11 love songs, and sounding more relaxed and confident than at any time in her 13-year recording career." JazzTimes (p.66) - "Krall has always sounded impressively rich and unfailingly polished. Never before, though, have her vocals or her playing evoked such profound contentment and easy self-assurance." Mojo (Publisher) (p.111) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[V]ocally she knows her way around a neatly turned lyric, her phrasing is immaculate and she's aware of light and shade in her delivery." DO YOU LIKE GREAT MUSIC? Diana Krall is just beyond reproach. She simply beats ANYBODY else in her Category hands down, and as long as her hands are down on those 88's, magic happens! Diana Krall's song stylings are entirely unique, and the tastefully-incorporated full orchestral arrangements augment - exquisitely - her sultry tones. Dakota Staton, Julie London and Jeri Southern come to mind, but Diana Krall stands all alone, in a class by herself. If you KNOW good music when you hear it, and APPRECIATE a REAL Artist at work, you will UNDERSTAND and therefore love this CD. For those who "get it", no explanation is necessary. For those who DON'T, no explanation will do; (A note to Miss Krall's critics: if YOU can't sing or play as well, GO AWAY - nobody gives a FIG what you think!!) For the rest of you, listen and learn. A standout track here is "How Insensitive", but you can't go wrong with anything on this First Class CD, from one of Music's Finest! Do something nice for your ears RIGHT NOW - BUY IT!

DIANA KRALL RULES! Diana Krall's newest CD defies criticism (well, not entirely, but anybody who doesn't "get it" doesn't know great music when they hear it!)Any track on this effort deserves Top Grades - It could Happen To You, How Insensitive, Exactly Like You, Little Girl Blue, Willow Weep For Me, and Come Dance With Me, just to name several. Diana is at her VERY best! The boys in her band know their stuff, and Tommy LiPuma earns his usual high marks for producing (with Diana Krall) this EXQUISITE work! Buy it NOW - you won't regret it! From This Moment On album
$11.35 THE LOOK OF LOVE won the 2002 Grammy Award For Best Engineered Album.
While there's no denying that jazz-pop star Diana Krall's movie-star good looks went a long way toward endearing her to mainstream America, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Just as undeniable are Krall's gifts as a pianist and singer. Far from a crass populist, she's a subtle, nuanced performer who approaches her craft with an excess of skill and knowledge. This is apparent from the very beginning of THE LOOK OF LOVE, when Krall tackles the overly familiar Gershwin chestnut "S'Wonderful" not the way countless jazz singers have done in preceding decades, but in a style influenced by Joao Gilberto, ...
| | Diana Krall Girl In The Other Room CD (2004) Enhanced CD
From This Moment On CD music
$12.29 It may or may not be significant that Diana Krall's first album of new material since the ascendance of Norah Jones is the former's least jazzy, most pop-savvy album of her career. In any case, it marks Krall's biggest departure to date; THE GIRL IN THE OTHER ROOM is almost entirely devoid of the jazz standards that constituted her previous repertoire, and it contains her first recorded batch of original songs. It's possible that new husband Elvis Costello, who co-wrote all six of those ...

From This Moment On music CDs
$15.59 Few "guitar shredders" of the late '80s were able to cross over into the upper reaches of the pop charts, but Joe Satriani proved to be an exception to the rule. And with over eight full-length studio albums in the shops by late 2003, Satch was ripe for a "best-of" collection -- resulting in the release of the double-disc overview Electric Joe Satriani: An Anthology. If you're a newcomer and are looking for a finely balanced set of highlights from throughout Satriani's career, Electric Joe Satriani is definitely the way to go. Like his pal Steve Vai, Satch could shred with the best of them, but always put the importance of songwriting before simply just blasting out a flurry of notes. Satriani's early work remains his best, including such uptempo air guitar classics as "Satch Boogie" and "Summer Song," as well as the gorgeous ballad "Always With Me, Always With You." But other highlights abound as well, including "Surfing With the Alien," "The ...
