Timed to coincide with Richard "Kinky" Friedman's completely serious 2006 independent run for Texas governor, THE BEST OF KINKY FRIEDMAN is a 15-track anthology of the singer and novelist's sardonic outlaw country tunes. Often misunderstood as an anti-PC caricature, Friedman is a social satirist whose songs feature deceptively serious commentary on racism ("We Reserve the Right to Refuse Service To You"), sexism ("Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed"), and anti-Semitism ("They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore"). The set also includes the heartbreaking "Sold American," one of the greatest country ballads of the 1970s.
Liner Note Author: Johnny Whiteside.Dirty Linen (p.45) - "A great idea, especially since some of his best albums are out of print....It's good to hear 'Something's Wrong With the Beaver' and the slightly more serious 'Sold American'." No Depression (p.90) - "Like Randy Newman, Kinky crafts songs with humor, satire and parody." Last Of The Jewish Cowboys: The Best Of Kinky Friedman songs
$10.65 Inundated Music is proud to announce the release of "Waterfront View" by artist Tom Coerver. This solo album features 13 original tunes and 4 covers of energetic roots, rock and blues music from planet Louisiana and beyond. From the swampy bottomland groove and snaky slide guitar of "Hear That Train" to the haunting nylon acoustic atmosphere of "Spanish Town" to the relentless slammin' jazzy heavy roll of "Whatever It Takes" to the Delta Blues Dobro of "Sittin' On Top Of The World" and several rockin' funk grooves, Tom puts together a gumbo of blues slide, southern rock sizzle, swirling Hammond organ, and a dash of jazz harmony here and there to keep the flavor down-home southern. It all started with a second-hand piano, a cheap mail-order drum set, and believe it or not: a free '65 telecaster. Tom's teen years were filled with garage bands and broken turntables while learning licks from the Allmans, Creedence, ZZ Top, Johnny Winter, Skynyrd and Eric Clapton. With all this music and motivation at his disposal, Tom landed gigs as a guitarist, drummer, and keyboard player in various bands in Louisiana and Texas. While gigging in Florida, he joined with Bobby Ingram (now with Molly Hatchet) and landed a major label and management deal. Six years of songwriting, recording, and arena ...

| | J B Beverley Watch America Roll By CD (2009)
Last Of The Jewish Cowboys: The Best Of Kinky Friedman album
$15.19 Despite having been born in 1977, J.B. Beverley (at least in his country work; he also fronts a punk band) likes to pretend it's the '50s on his second album with the Wayward Drifters, Watch America Roll By. With the group contributing banjo, fiddle, and standup bass, he sings in his sawdust tenor of life on the road and women who give you the blues, occasionally name-dropping Hank Williams or Johnny Cash. The sound effects of cars and trains going by are heard between tracks, as if Beverley and the band were playing by the side of the road. Only occasionally does the singer acknowledge the time-warp nature of his work, as in "They'll Only Play My Music (When I'm Dead)." Most of the time, he is inside the concept (or the conceit) that his songs and performances come from another time and place. Of course, in a bar with a cold one or two, it's easy to pretend to be just about anywhere at any time, and those are the kind of places where this outfit spends much of its time. ~ William Ruhlmann
