| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
Creeping Ambivalent Tendencies
$10.35 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like ...

$8.89 For the past few decades, Al Jarreau has established himself as a truly modern jazz singer, one for the post-fusion generation--those who grew up with the sounds of the cordial contemporary jazz of George Benson, Spyro Gyra, and Herbie Hancock. CHRISTMAS is Jarreau's first-ever collection of holiday ...
| | Ugk Too Hard To Swallow CD (1992)
Creeping Ambivalent Tendencies
$8.99 Truth in advertising, Too Hard to Swallow is UGK before they got funked up, grinding over some minimal, hard beats that aren't as complementary to their delivery as the smoother production they would later favor. Still, thanks to members Bun B and Pimp C's ability to write memorable rhymes, the album -- which repeats some tracks from their impossible to find indie release The Southern Way -- is a winner with three mammoth singles so important to the UGK story. "Something Good" puts a crooked beat under Rufus' most popular number, "Use Me Up" tells its pissed-off tale over a Bill Withers sample, and "Pocket Full of Stones" is a classic tale of crack rocks, Cadillacs, and making bail. The mucho macho "Cramping My Style" is a fan favorite with "hump and dump" lyrics that didn't really play nice with radio, and the snide "I'm So Bad" is a great example of how well Pimp C can offend and ...

Creeping Ambivalent Tendencies
$14.69 Dave Evans has been playing bluegrass for over 30 years and shows no signs of slowing down. At the end of 2002, he released two new albums, High Waters and Just Look at Me Now. While both albums would have probably fit onto one disc, the different themes and changes in band personnel seem to warrant separate releases. Whereas the first album takes a closer look at life's hard times, the latter seems more upbeat, optimistic. Dobroist Matt Mauch also brings a new element to the band, adding a touch of the blues to pieces like "Hey Mama, Just Look at Me Now." Mauch's dobro is joined by a nice mix of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and bouncy bass, providing the perfect backdrop for a catchy set of traditional bluegrass. There's a crack version of "Next Sunday, Darling, Is My Birthday," that's as lonesome and down-home as bluegrass gets. As with High Waters, Evans has written about half of the songs and they stand up well with the public dominion material. He also handles the lead vocals, injecting a touch of mountain soul into country-blues songs like "Here's ...
