Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Special Edition This film version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway smash tells the story of a young Chinese woman who travels to San Francisco as part of an arranged marriage. The problem is that her prospective husband has other plans. Not completely successful in its translation to the screen, it remains, nonetheless, an appealing presentation.

Flower Drum Song Movie Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) An Asian-American Extravaganza.....!! Typical Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, but with an all Asian cast. Very impressing for bringing the generation gap and conflict between tradition and new, modern concepts. All the characters give memorable performances, I liked especially the actor who played the father of the hero "Ta",(Benson Fong, I believe) he was simply splendid. All in all maybe it is not in the usual standard of its creators, yet the lyrics and music are still enjoyable, more understandable if you keep in mind the "Chinatown" of the late 50's and early 60's!! One of My Favorites Maybe as an adult I may not rate this movie 5 stars, but as a kid this was one of my very favorite films! The music and dance routines are colorful and fun! I still remember all the songs and can't wait to show it to my children! Submitted by swillis5 (Cincinnati, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Movie! Very entertaining with wonderful songs and dance numbers, good characters and colorful settings. The interviews that are included on this disc (featuring Nancy Kwan and other stars of the movie) was quite interesting. The quality of the picture and sound reproductions were excellent. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who loves musicals, especially Rodgers and Hammerstein productions, as well those who enjoy San Francisco's Chinatown district and people who simply like to be entertained. $8.69 Cole Porter's smash Broadway musical ANYTHING GOES received its second silver-screen treatment with this 1956 remake directed by Robert Lewis (ZEIGFELD FOLLIES). Updating the original 1936 version with loads of 1950s-era Hollywood glamor (including lavish costume designs by Edith Head), Lewis invited laconic crooner Bing Crosby to reprise his starring role opposite a newcomer, dancer Donald O'Connor.
