Sawa Tamaki Popular Covers album
$13.79 (MP3 Available for Download) Italian vocalist Laura Pausini became a worldwide sensation during the first 10 years of her recording career (although her success in America is minimal compared to Europe and Latin America). PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO, released in 2008 in both Italian and Spanish versions, extends Pausini's command over the adult contemporary form, offering up 14 tracks that play like foreign-language versions of Celine Dion or Phil Collins. Like Pausini's previous releases, PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO is layered with glossy production, ...

| | Rick Gallagher Sweet Potato Eyebrows CD (2002)
Sawa Tamaki Popular Covers songs
$15.95 Pittsburgh denizen Rick Gallagher's initial album is filled with flowing and melodic harmonic invention as he explores a musical program of two standards and one renamed traditional tune, with the rest originals. Gallagher has a graceful and supple way with his playing that captures the essence of each tune he applies his pianism to. As with most contemporary piano players, there's more than a touch of Bill Evans in him. One of the loveliest tracks on the CD, "Everything Is Good (Olivia's Song)," right from the opening chords brings to mind the Evans trio of the late '50s and early '60s. Instead of Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian, Paul Thompson and Thomas Wendt are on bass and drums, respectively. Much of the playing is reflective, yet relaxed. The contemplative scenario requires that the listener pay close attention to get the benefit of the subtlety inherent in Gallagher's arrangements. His version of Duke Ellington's "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)" is as meditative as any that comes to mind, taking on a Frederick Delius iridescence. Truly eight minutes of very distinguished pianism, with Thompson and Wendt helping to sustain Gallagher's interpretive stance on this classic Ellington work. On "People of the World," "Grumblin'," and the title tune the group is joined by Eric Defade and Delano "Volcano" Choy, where the tempo picks up considerably. The traditional tune "Amazing Grace" is turned around and redubbed "Grace Amazing," played at a much slower pace than that usually heard and with different time signatures, making it one of the more engaging pieces on the CD. Sweet Potato Eyebrows is a very credible initial undertaking. ~ Dave Nathan
Jazz pianist Rick Gallagher has been a part of the Pittsburgh music scene since the late 1980's. Over the years Rick has done solo and group work in a wide range of contemporary styles but has found a voice as a player and composer in classic jazz. He has worked with many of the area's top performers and bands as well as solo piano work at diverse venues such as the historic Grand Concourse; the Gandy Dancer Saloon piano bar; and the PPG Holiday Series. Regularly Rick can be seen with small groups at Palomino and Pines Tavern, the Orchard Hill Church worship team, and the Boilermaker Jazz Band, as well as his long-standing spotlight as the pianist with the US Steel Tower and One Oxford Center downtown. Gallagher is noteworthy for his classic jazz style, creative arrangements, and his memorable originals.Rick has five recordings as a feature artist and has played on a number of other CD’s as a sideman. His recordings have been played on hundreds of radio stations across the United States, and Canada including nationally syndicated jazz shows like “Jazz After Hours.” They all include Rick’s rich harmonic concepts, lyrical melodic ideas, creative arrangements and soulful organic sound. A Pittsburgh native and father of four, Gallagher received a Bachelor of Music at Duquesne University where he studied under the mentorship of David Budway. His influences include Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Red Garland, Vince Guaraldi, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Benny Green, Ray Brown, Wynton Kelly, Cyrus Chestnut and George Shearing. He currently balances his performances with teaching, arranging, composing and recording. Rick is available for studio work, jazz festivals, concerts, church performances, and other private and public events.Credits ...

| | Hoven Droven Jumping At The Cedar CDs (2006)
Sawa Tamaki Popular Covers MP3 Album
$17.49 There's a darkness about Swedish music that actually fits well with the rock sensibility, and Hoven Droven have made a career from combining the two. This double live set, recorded at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, shows just how well they make the two styles fit together -- you can't even see the seam. They dive into the music with absolute glee, pulling no punches and taking no prisoners, although, for all their wildness, there's real discipline in their playing, and they can turn in some filigreed delicacy, as on the Irish-inflected "Kom Hem." It's pedal to the metal (in more ways than one) from the word go, but they really let loose on the second disc after they return for a long encore set, where guitarist Bo Lindberg really lets loose with a solo on "Skvadern" that belongs on a heavy rock album, but which works perfectly ...
