Patrick Bateman, a young, well to do man working on wall street at his father's company kills for no reason at all, collects body parts and displays them in his home. As his life progresses his hatred for the world becomes more and more intense. Based Bret Ellis' graphically violent novel as a 1980s satire. Cast: Christian Bale, Reese Witherspoon, Willem Dafoe. A cunning indictment of the materialism of the 1980s, AMERICAN PSYCHO is Mary Harron's (I SHOT ANDY WARHOL) and Guinevere Turner's (GO FISH) deft interpretation of the dark and violent Brett Easton Ellis novel of the same name. Christian Bale (VELVET GOLDMINE) plays Patrick Bateman, the personification of the "me" culture of Ronald Reagan's 1980s. Imprisoned in an inane corporate existence fueled by status symbols, small talk, and gossip, Bateman begins a bloody reign of terror on nearly all that cross his path. The film's gray and navy mise-en-scene is filled with chilly, vacant streets, hard-edged skyscrapers and cold interiors flecked with the latest technological gadgets and designer flourishes. Mary Harron's camera glides through these spaces with the undisturbed detachment of a shark. Bale is a razor sharp Bateman whose cool, predatory grace is only matched by the equally indifferent corporate world in which he lives. Even during its most hideous scene, when a naked, chain-saw-toting Bateman goes on a screaming rampage, AMERICAN PSYCHO manages to project a cold indifference that has terrifying undertones. Harron's film is a frightening denunciation of a consumer culture gone amuck with greed, materialism and a lack of nearly any charity whatsoever. Released theatrically April 14, 2000
Filmed in New York City and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Leonardo DiCaprio, an early consideration for the role of Patrick Bateman, decided to star in THE BEACH instead.
To clean the movie up and acheive a relatively mild R-rating, the producers excised approximately eighteen seconds of footage from a menage-a-trois scene featuring an emotionally detached Patrick Bateman and two women (one of whom was co-writer Guinevere Turner).
The song "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & The Waves, which runs during the establishing shots of New York City and Wall Street, makes an ironic reference to Michael J. Fox's THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS, which also features the song.
While working out, Patrick Bateman watches Tobe Hooper's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Several scenes later he pursues a victim with a chainsaw.
Huey Lewis, objecting to the violence of AMERICAN PSYCHO, insisted producers remove his song "Hip To Be Square" from the official soundtrack album. American Psycho Reviews: "...A mordantly funny and agreeably blatant satire with genuinely subversive bite..."

American Psycho Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Terrific This film will keep you going with it's dark, dark humor. Christian Bale's performance is absolutely stunning! He does a great job at being that "collected" psychopath that is the vein Patrick Bateman. Highly reccommended. Submitted by Lux (Glendale, AZ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Worth every penny I loved Bateman's spot on analogy of Phil Collins and Genesis, Huey Lewis and Whitney while entertaining at his
apartment. Superlative casting and directing along with the spontaneous chemistry that every great film needs to have.
"Peanut butter soup with smoked duck and mashed squash"? You gotta be kidding.
Van Patten thought that Ed gein was some other inverstment banker dude.
This is a comedy film. I almost thought Dafoe was going to
pull off a Colombo at first. And the scene when his receptionist calmly looks through his deranged pornographic
sketches in his appointment book. I could go on and on.
Has a bit of a Stanley Kubrick vibe at times. Reminded me a little of Clockwork Orange at times. Submitted by Dean Dillweed (Los Angeles, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
Brilliant It comes across as a horror movie, but the bloodletting takes a backseat to the dark humor and scathing look at the consumerism of the 1980s. In reality, much of the same exists today and I would suggest members of my church watch it. Christian Bale is excellent as Patrick Bateman--or is he--and freaking out over the color and type on business cards, refusing to go to a restaurant without a reservation, brooding over the fact that someone has a better apartment than he does, or making love to himself in the mirror rather than to the prositutes that he is with. This movie blew me away. Submitted by tintin84105 (Woods Cross, UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
A very inpressive thriller. Not a bad movie at all, very harsh, It has a very great plot and great actors. I highly reccommend. Submitted by burninhell95 (Sydney, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Impressive I watched this film when I was younger and my father told me to leave when the three sum came. Ever since then I've been meaning to watch it. One night I finally did, and I was absolutely blown away.
Christian Bale gives a grade-A performance as usual. This guy really does make strange choices. Choices that really seem to challenge him. What makes him such a great actor is his persistence to choose strange and challenging roles. He's mesmerizing to watch. And he pulls something off that usually would seem difficult, he makes the character somewhat likeable despite the killing.
The filmmakers themselves really captured an eerie vibe in the way they shot it. And I found this to be one of the most unsettling films that I have ever watched. The ending was terrific. Left extremely open. I've read other reviews from critics, saying what was the point in making this but the people who made this were really making a statement. I was extremely impressed with the film. Check it out if you have an open mind. Submitted by DirectorG13 (Miami, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

American Psycho DVD
$29.79 Clint Eastwood's companion piece to FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS is again set during World War II. But in LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA, he looks at the war from the Japanese perspective, using Japanese dialogue. With American forces on their way, General Kuribayashi (Ken Watanabe, THE LAST SAMURAI) arrives on the island to find his troops woefully under-trained and hopelessly outmatched. Japanese pop and television star Kazunari Ninomiya plays Saigo, a young soldier who asks, "Am I digging my own grave?" as he creates trenches. With no hope of reinforcements, these men have little hope of leaving the island alive.
Eastwood and director of photography Tom Stern paint their picture in a palette of taupes and grays. The landscape of the volcanic island is desolate, providing a hellish experience for the stationed soldiers but a stark beauty for the audience. With this bleak setting, LETTERS FROM IWO ...

Though they initially seem genuine, Gary reveals his intentions to rob the bank where Chris works. Eager for friendship ...

$23.15 The music of the Rolling Stones has lit up the soundtrack to so many Martin Scorsese films ("Gimme Shelter" has appeared in no less than three of his features--GOODFELLAS, CASINO, and THE DEPARTED) that it's little surprise to find the director teaming up with the legendary rockers for this concert recording. SHINE A LIGHT begins with a few glimpses of the preparation that went into the recording of the show, which was staged over two nights at New York City's Beacon Theatre in 2006. Scorsese also includes some candid footage of the ...
