| | Trick Pony R.I.D.E. CD (2005)
Redneck Christmas CD music
$7.29 R.I.D.E., the title of Trick Pony's third album, stands for "Rebellious Individuals Delivering Entertainment." Of course, in 2000's Nashville, rebelling could often mean playing straight-up old-school country while not taking oneself too seriously, two pursuits at which Trick Pony excels. A slice of ...

| | George Jones Hits I Missed... And One I Didn't CD (2005)
Redneck Christmas songs
$12.59 True to its title, HITS I MISSED...AND ONE I DIDN'T consists mainly of songs George Jones initially declined to record that became big hits for other country singers. This 2005 release finds the older, wiser Jones finally getting around to putting his unmistakable mark on these already-classic tunes. The opening cut, "Funny How Time Slips Away," for example, will forever be associated with Willie Nelson, but Jones manages to find previously unexplored nooks and crannies within ...

| | Ralph Stanley Echoes Of The Stanley Brothers CD (2001)
Redneck Christmas album
$14.55 Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys includes: Ralph Stanley (vocals, banjo); Keith Whitley (vocals, guitar); Ricky Skaggs (vocals, mandolin); Roy Lee Centers (vocals).
Recorded in 1971 & 1973. Includes liner notes by Colin Escott.
Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch (DigiPrep, Hollywood, California).
Ralph Stanley is the elder statesman of bluegrass, both a link to the past and a living reminder of the music's relevance. Echoes of the Stanley Brothers is comprised of two albums, Michigan Bluegrass from 1971 and Gospel Echoes of the Stanley Brothers from 1973. The first album covers faithless women and murder, the second, faith and redemption. The bluesy "Another Song, Another Drink" will probably inspire anyone who's ever lost their love due to a bottle problem to hit the bars once again. Like some of Stanley's best music, there's a sense of fatalism that saturates lyrics like, "I realize how much I loved you/but it's too late for you to care." The end, it seems, is near. The plot-heavy "River Underground" carries the same determinism. The narrator marries a woman, ...
| | Norman Blake Old Ties: The Rounder Heritage Series CD (2002)
Redneck Christmas CD music
$14.55 Recorded between 1971 and 1990. Includes liner notes by Jon Weisberger.
Norman Blake will never be known as a revolutionary. His starkly honest guitar picking and gently lulling voice have sounded almost exactly the same for the 30-some years that the Rounder release Old Ties encompasses. Often performing solo, occasionally accompanied by his wife, Nancy, and any of a number of bluegrass and neo-traditional folk musicians (Tut ...
