A few of FORECAST TOMORROW's many highlights include the moody "Unknown Soldier," the funky "Black Market," and the vibrant "Birdland," which showcase Shorter's deft sax playing and Zawinul's simmering keyboard work, and (on the latter two songs) the fluid bass lines of the young, mercurial Jaco Pastorious. Given the surprising dearth of Weather Report retrospectives, this anthology fills a sizable gap in the ensemble's catalog, and easily stands out as its most comprehensive collection.
This 3 CD/DVD set includes 37 audio selections comprising the perfect overview of one of the most consistently challenging and inventive ensembles of the past 4 decades. Also included are 2 previously unreleased tracks, plus a DVD of over 2 hours capturing the group, with the late Jaco Pastorius on electric bass, at their in-concert zenith.
On this excellent 2006 box set, Columbia Records presents an impressively thorough overview of the revered 1970s/early-'80s jazz-rock fusion group Weather Report. The compilation begins unconventionally, though intuitively, with pre-Weather Report tracks that reveal the band's roots, most notably Miles Davis's serene yet adventurous "In a Silent Way," which features both core Weathermen Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone) and Joe Zawinul (keyboards), and effectively establishes the template for the duo's eclectic and ambitious vision.
Weather Report: Jaco Pastorius, Joe Zawinul, Peter Erskine, Wayne Shorter.
Rolling Stone (p.110) - Ranked #5 in Rolling Stone's "The Top 10 Reissues Of 2006" -- "[T]his three-CD history shows how hard Weather Report rocked without being rock." JazzTimes (p.74) - "[I]t is Zawinul's odd harmonic personality and sonic scope that leave the most lasting impression." Weather Report Forecast Tomorrow Songs | | Forecast Tomorrow CD DISC 1: |

| Forecast Tomorrow Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews SUPERB!!!! Finally a box set, in case you didn't know, this is one of the "GROUPS OF THE CENTURY"!!!! Submitted by fonkay1 (Crete, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Rip-off for WR Fans This box set is a wrip-off for current fans of Weather Report. You have to buy three DCs of music most of which you already have to get one DVD. For future fans this looks like a nice set, but will be just as expensive. You will end up buying individual CDs and all you have left is the DVD (and three unplayed CDs). Why, why, why, Sony, Shorter, Zawinul, Belden, you may ask? Answer is of course: for the money, they want to get our money. Submitted by Kari (Washington) Was This Review Helpful? Which Way To Go? Which way to go? A box set that contains everything they did or highlights selected by Joe Zawinul & Wayne Shorter. I would have prefered the former, but probably wouldn't have been able to afford it. This is a satisfying compromise. Everyone will have a favourite that they will miss, but this is terrific selection with great sound quality. The DVD is an added sweetner. You can't please everyone, but real Weather Report Fans will have to have this splendid release. Submitted by tonym (Brisbane, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
Karen Hall and Joe Zawinul: Weather Report "Am I Going To Die Tour 2007-2008"
Stevie Wonder Puerta La Quinos' daughter and Karen Hall (Clay Hall) have common lifestyles in their careers as musicians. Weather Report Rent is due on the 1st. Landlord Joe Zawinul of 1 Richland Place, Pasadena, Ca. USA. Approved by GR and DPSS. There are 2 women in the Weather Report avant garde jazz band and they both play drums. And they are both fine. Because of Airto Moreira...They continue to (along with Acuna and Badrena)...There are 3 Europeans in the band (Karen Hall, Miroslav Vituos and Zawinul)...Miles Davis impersonator made a great impression 2 nights ago...There are mexicans...The only way to know Weather Report is to interview them. There's a 2 hour DVD too! I've been wanting to get a box set of WR music, and this came along. CDU shows 4 disks, but the breakdown only lists 3 disks. Either way, I still wanted it. Turns out the 4th disk is a DVD from mid 1970. I haven't seen the DVD yet, but overall, I am very pleased with the box set. Submitted by mb (Dallas, TX) Was This Review Helpful?
