On her fourth album, 2006's THE MAKINGS OF ME, R&B star Monica returns with an assured set of hip-hop-tinged tunes. Presenting an edgier image than on past releases, the Atlanta, Georgia-based vocalist collaborates with her hometown's snap-music soldiers Dem Franchize Boys on the hard-hitting "Everytime Tha Beat Drop," but is still capable of sensual moments, as on the smooth, Curtis Mayfield-sampling "Dozen Roses."

This Cd is the bomb! It has something for men and women on this track. She does not get the credit that she deserves in the music industry. She can sing and her fashion sense is off the chain. She's Great

This is a nice middle of the road type, let it grow on you, CD. Nothing that will hit you like bam, but it still won't put you to sleep. Its good to see Monica come fighting back.

The fourth album by urban R&B artist Donell Jones rivals his 2002 commercial breakthrough, LIFE GOES ON. There are no radical stylistic departures here, which is a good thing for Jones fans. JOURNEY OF A GEMINI is a solid urban contemporary effort, suffused in equal measure with the aesthetics of hip-hop and Jones's silky-smooth, old-school crooning.
JOURNEY enjoys top-notch production from the Underdogs and Tim & Bob, among others, and the tunes find a comfortable middle ground between uptempo club tracks and honey-sweet bedroom ballads. There are plenty of strong grooves to dig into, and Jones is suave and seductive as always.
