This Denver-based quartet mixes the sweeping, arena-ready feel of Coldplay with the sincere, radio-friendly folk-rock of bands like Counting Crows for a highly melodic brand of palatable pop. The Fray's first release, HOW TO SAVE A LIFE, is packed with songs that push all the right mass-appeal buttons: sumptuous piano, swaying mid-tempo rhythms, anthemic choruses, and alternately soaring and meandering melodies sung in a high, emotive voice. Bridging stadium rock, emo, and classic rock on the order of U2, the Fray makes an assured first statement on their debut.
This dualdisc includes the complete 12 track album on the CD side, and on the DVD side, an original dualdisc documentary program, new 10 minute on-the-road documentary piece, 2 music videos, and making-of documenties. How To Save A Life Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Best CD Ever! I am not kidding, this is the greatest CD ever. I love all the songs on this CD and the lyrics are very meaningful. Go Yankees! Submitted by yankeefan175 (Moses Lake, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Yay for the fray! Sorry for the horrible title of this review! This CD is amazing. The songs are listened to by a secular group though the lyrics deserve more. The stereotype of secular listeners don't care about lyrics in the slightest, The Fray deserves more. The lyrics are powerful. The music tries to hide behind the lyrics. Even from a music only place this Cd rocks. The music is a crafty blend of moving bass lines, looping piano and soft, non-distorted guitars. This CD is amazing, if you so choose to purchase it please give the lyrics a glance as well. Submitted by Kayla (Quebec, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

How To Save A Life
$9.85 In July 1969, the eyes of the world were on the Apollo 11 moon landing--but the world would have watched blank television screens if not for the hard work of a group of Australians manning the Parkes Radio Telescope, one of the largest dishes in the world. In THE DISH, a dramatization of the events surrounding the telecast or the space mission, Cliff Buxton (Sam Neill) and Al Burnett (Patrick Warburton) try to hold their crew together through calamities and crises ranging from dangerously high winds to a sudden power failure that cuts off contact with the distant astronauts, forcing the team to impersonate Neil Armstrong for the benefit of the visiting American ambassador. While the crew frantically prepares for the big moment, relaying the footage to televisions across the world, the people of Parkes celebrate their part in this momentous historical event. One of the most critically and commercially successful films ever to come out of Australia, THE DISH is a rousing, feel-good movie that succeeds both because of its perfectly formed characters ...

How To Save A Life
$9.69 Extreme sports receive another loving treatment from award-winning documentarian Dana Brown, whose previous film STEP INTO LIQUID helped to define a new generation of surf culture. This time he sets his sights on the notorious Tecate Score Baja 1000, the longest and most challenging off-road race in the world. It is also the only race that virtually any vehicle may enter, and the list encompasses motorcycles, trophy trucks, class-one buggies, and even ancient Volkswagon Beetles. The drivers of this diverse group of automobiles share one thing: a taste for the thrill of the race. But they also clearly enjoy the camaraderie and fellowship of the participants. Begun in 1967 by a small band of adventurers, it had grown by 2003 to encompass 1200 participants with 270 vehicles between them, and a rowdy group of over over 200,000 spectators. The atmosphere is both carnivalesque and extremely intense, with the pristine blue Pacific and the desert mountains providing a backdrop for a distilled human drama playing itself out in sun and sand.
The race represents something personal and profound to all who take up its challenge, from 16-year-old Andy McMillin to old-timer JN Roberts--who won the very first Baja race 30 years before. Mike "Mouse" McCoy's decision to ride the entire race himself, without relief riders, garners both respect and doubts as to his ...

How To Save A Life
$8.85 Coming from a French director, Luc Jacquet, the miraculous MARCH OF THE PENGUINS would have to be a love story. And so it is. The film explores the mating rituals of the emperor penguin, one of the most resilient animals on earth. Each summer, after a nourishing period of deep-sea feeding, the penguins pop up onto the ice and begin their procession across the frozen tundra of Antarctica. Walking doggedly in single file, they are a sight to behold. Hundreds converge from every direction, moving instinctively toward their mating ground. Once there, they mingle and chatter until they find the perfect mate--a monogamous match that will last a year, through the brutal winter and into the spring. During that time, the mother will give birth to an egg and then leave for the ocean to feed again. The father will stay to protect the egg through the freezing blizzards and pure darkness of winter, which would be deadly to practically any other species. Finally, with spring, the egg hatches and the baby penguins are born. Mothers return from the sea to reunite with their families and feed the starving newborns, while the fathers are finally relieved of their protective duties after months without food. This remarkable story is narrated by Morgan Freeman, whose dignified voice gives the penguins the grave admiration they deserve. But even more incredible is the photography, which shows the penguins hunting underwater, sliding ...

How To Save A Life
$10.79 Following up its 2004 breakthrough album, FINAL STRAW, the Ireland-bred/Scotland-based rock band Snow Patrol opted for an even more accessible sound on EYES OPEN. Frontman Gary Lightbody has always shown a penchant for crafting pop-savvy tunes, but this 11-track set takes his songwriting to new heights, as best revealed on the energetic anthems "You're All I Have" and "Hands Open." While these songs display grandeur on the scale of U2 and Coldplay, Lightbody also knows how to ease into a tender ballad, most notably the chiming "You Could Be Happy," which features delicate Bjork-like backing. Though much of the record is upbeat, Lightbody's melancholy sensibility still comes into play on the brooding "Shut Your Eyes" and "Set Fire to the Third Bar," a haunting duet with Martha Wainwright. Longtime fans may miss Snow Patrol's indie-pop quirkiness (a la "Get Balsamic Vinegar...Quick You Fool" from SONGS FOR POLARBEARS), but in its place is a mature and assured approach that is sure to appeal to a wide audience.

How To Save A Life
$10.55 After a great deal of discussion--on the part of fans and producers alike--over Daniel Craig's (THE MOTHER, MUNICH) suitability for the role of James Bond, he more than proves himself in this explosive revamping of the franchise. Under the direction of Martin Campbell (THE MASK OF ZORRO) and with Paul Haggis (CRASH) helping with the re-writes, this addition to the Bond canon manages to hold true to the essence of the stories--the villainous villains, the fabulous sets, the beautiful women, the fast-paced action--while updating the formula with subtlety and humanity.
Trading in the Cold War era for a new, post-9-11 landscape, the tale unfolds in locations that span the globe, including the Bahamas, Venice, and the Czech Republic. It opens in Madagascar, where Bond pursues a guerilla bomb-maker in one of the most breathtaking chase scenes ever--and it all takes place on foot. Botching that assignment, Bond goes to Montenegro to square off against terrorist baddie Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelson), an international loan shark who gambles with the money of his equally dangerous clients. Beautiful British Treasury representative Vesper Lynd (Eva Green, THE DREAMERS) supplies Bond's own funds, appearing on his arm in Montenegro, while M (Dame Judi Dench, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE) keeps a close watch on the action from headquarters. ...
