| | King Crimson In The Court Of The Crimson King CD (1969) Bonus Tracks
Mr. Miracle CD music
$102.39 Initial pressings featured a limited edition, cardboard-stock gatefold sleeve and unpublished archive photos.
KC's debut album introduced to the world a group that threw various '60s genres into a blender and set the results afire with a blowtorch. One of the pioneers of the progressive rock movement that began in the late '60s and flourished in the early '70s, King Crimson was arguably the most consistently creative band in the genre. On IN THE COURT they blend wispy, Donovan-ish folk-rock with Wagnerian grandeur, mind-bending ...

| | Daughtry Leave This Town CD (2009)
Mr. Miracle album
$15.45 When he was recording his debut album in 2006, Chris Daughtry didn't have the time to assemble the real rock band he so desperately wanted to have, so it appeared under the band name Daughtry without featuring any of the musicians who later became part of the group. That's not the case with LEAVE THIS TOWN, Daughtry's second record: all five members are glowering on the album cover, floating like specters over an abandoned Californian street. The five rockers serve as visual evidence that Daughtry ...
| | Sting If On A Winter's Night... CDs (2009) Digipak
Mr. Miracle CD music
$12.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing: the austerity is genuine, not affected, and the cerebral nature of the album is fascinating, albeit mildly so, as this is as sleepy as it is thoughtful. And it's that thoughtfulness that does distinguish IF ON A WINTER NIGHT...; no other Christmas album exists in the head like this. It's a holiday album for people who have never wanted to hear a holiday album, let alone own one.

| | Chris De Burgh Ultimate Collection CD (2001) Import
Mr. Miracle album
$32.59 A reprise of the similarly titled two-CD set released in Germany in 2000, Ultimate Collection is a 38-song journey through 25 years of DeBurgh, concentrating upon the numbers that you'd expect to find in such a gathering, but managing to throw in a few surprises as well. Paramount among these is "Patricia the Stripper 2000," revisiting one of the young DeBurgh's finest creations, while his most recent CD prior to this, Quiet Revolution, also gets a welcome look in. More emphasis on his earliest, and mid- to late-'70s material would have been welcome; "Spaceman Came Traveling" may have become a festive favorite, but there was so much more worthy material on the Spanish Train album, while his debut album is wholly overlooked. Of course, such complaints are rendered immaterial by the release, the following year, of the Much More Than This anthology, and anybody looking for a cheap introduction to the full DeBurgh will not do better than this. ~ Dave Thompson
The Ultimate Collection is a bountiful assortment of Chris de Burgh's best material, up to and including songs from 2000's Quiet Revolution album. The 38 tracks spotlight the best of de Burgh's love songs, fairy tales, and quicker pieces, resulting in a delightful melange of this Argentinian-born's music that spans nearly three decades. There's an equal number of classics and newer songs, placing favorites such as "Don't Pay the Ferryman," "Lady in Red," and "High on Emotion" between subtleties like "When I Think of You," "Tender Hands," and "Snows of New York." The entrancing beauty of "A Spaceman Came Travelling," which doubles as a popular Christmas tune, is a welcomed inclusion, as is the mysterious "Traveller" from 1980's Eastern Wind and the carefree airiness of "Say Goodbye to It All" off of Into the Light. "Patricia the Stripper 2000" is novel, but the original would have fared much better. But surprises such as "Man on the ...
