| | Todd Helvig Stones Throw CD Todd Helvig Discography of CDs
Don’t be fooled by the demure scene on the cover of "A Stones Throw." Todd has jam-packed this disc with all the power and energy music can provide. Besides writing these passionate, evocative songs, Todd arranged, performed, recorded, engineered and produced this behemoth all on his little own. As you’ll soon discover, he has clearly come into his own as a lyricist and composer. On this album, Todd manages yet again to articulate experiences of life into his craft. He blends rhythm and melody in a contemporary, yet classic style. This album’s musical journey takes you from the contemplative rhapsody of the title track to the jazzy, airy, inspiration of “Revelations;” from the somewhat stinging social commentary of "American Pride," to the gentle and sensitive “How Do I Say Goodbye (To You).” Todd's straight-forward recording style allows you to feel like you’re right at home, sitting on the living room couch getting your own personal performance. And best of all, each song quickly begins to fit like your favorite pair of jeans; tight where you want, and loose where it needs to be.About Todd Helvig:A Colorado (Denver) based singer/songwriter, Todd is also an active member of the Colorado Music Association. He is currently playing/booking solo, acoustic sets across the Midwest region, and is fast developing a dedicated body of listeners and fans. | | Feverdream You Don't Know Us, But We Know Who You Are CD (1996)
Stones Throw album
$9.29 L.A.'s Satellite does listeners a favor, bringing this nobody Melbourne, Australia, quintet to American ears. Feverdream straddles the best influences of the last 20 years: Punk, post-punk, dream pop, atmospheric rock, and quiet, moody stuff stew together within convincing tunes. On the opening, "Never Letting Go," bassist/singer Ewan McArthur bawls dramatically with the guts of Stiff Little Fingers' Jake Burns (who he resembles on the chorus, and occasionally elsewhere, with that throaty greatness), while the guitars surge with longing (see also the smoldering "Vortex"). The wired, cascading guitar sound brings back the memory of fantastic, equally unheralded, more or less forgotten Aussie outfits such as the Ups and Downs, Toys Went Berserk, and the latter work of the Happy Hate Me Nots. The sinewy, faraway timbres offset the aggression amidst melodic smarts to make for an often mesmerizing LP, one that occasionally equals Whipping Boy's stunning Heartworm. ~ Jack Rabid
Feverdream was: Ewan McArthur - bass, vocals, guitar, keyboards Tim James - guitars, keyboards, white noise Ben Keenan- guitars, other noises, vocals Nathan D'Arcy - drums, percussion David Wroe - guitar, vocalsMelbourne, Australia's Feverdream have been compared to a cyclone and it's easy to hear why. From the stand out track "No Stone Unturned" with its dreamy, cryptic melody to "Wide Awake" and its jagged, in your face edginess, it's no wonder Rolling Stone Australia likened them to a "crackling stockwhip". A favorite among Australia's radio listeners and programers alike, Feverdream positioned themselvesnear the top of all of Australia's major charts. Think of Lush with Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs/Love Spit Love)on vocals and the guitar attack of Swervedriver. Since 1993 Feverdream have taken Australia by storm. From their first release, a five song E.P. entitled Initial, they have been gathering critical raves from zines such as Dark Angel and Permission to more mainstream publications like The Melbourne Times and even Rolling Stone Australia. Their rich diversity of sound and texture has made Feverdream hard to define. At times ...

| | Shelton, Paul & Doug Monsoon Dream CD (2008)
Stones Throw CD music
$18.95 Monsoon Dream was created during the August rainy season of southern Arizona, which was fairly good in 2008 and maybe a bit inspiring to southwestern artists Paul Sheldon and Doug Shelton. Having recently met at one of the galleries where they show (Tucson’s Max Gallery), they dicovered that they shared an interest in music. The idea of combining hammered dulcimer and electric guitar seemed intriguing. In the ensuing ...
| | White Rainbow New Clouds CD (2009)
Stones Throw music CDs
$11.89 As clichéd as it can be to say that an album is "aptly named," White Rainbow's NEW CLOUDS truly has a fitting title. Adam Forkner's second Kranky release blends and builds its layers of sound into tracks that are as softly dense and massive as towering cumulus clouds. If this album sounds even more quintessentially of its label than PRISM OF ETERNAL NOW did, it shouldn't be surprising: Forkner toured with fellow Kranky denizens Atlas Sound and Valet in support of that album, and those groups' hypnotic haze inspired him to make his own music more expansive and atmospheric. NEW CLOUDS' enmeshed percussion, guitars, vocals, and synths complement each other more organically than ever before, suggesting avant electronics, drone rock, and blissful new age without borrowing from any of those styles too obviously. Forkner channels this newfound subtlety into four tracks that are dynamic despite their softness. Where PRISM OF ETERNAL NOW kept at least a few toes on terra firma, NEW CLOUDS whisks listeners away immediately with "Tuesday Rollers and ...
