| | Travis Tritt Rockin' Side CD (2002)
The Saga Continues CD music
$8.89 In February of 2002, Warner/Rhino offered up two Travis Tritt compilations, one spotlighting his "Rockin' Side," the other his "Lovin' Side." Titles don't come much clearer than that, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that both compilations deliver on their promise without straying from their template. Because they stick to a theme, neither has all of his hits, but that's not a problem since the selected hits -- in this case, tunes like "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" and "Ten Feet Tall and Bulletproof" -- are surrounded by sharp selections from his albums, giving each compilation a surprisingly well-rounded feel. Of the two, The Rockin' Side is superior because Tritt sounds livelier, freer, truer in this setting than he does crooning ballads, and the material is also far more consistent. Note that this really does take "rockin'" seriously, meaning that honky tonk numbers (and big hits) like "Country Club" and "Here's a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)" are entirely absent, but those looking for either the "Rockin' Side" or "Lovin' Side" of Travis Tritt will find either volume satisfying. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Includes liner notes by Robert K. Oermann.
Digitally remastered by Teresa Caffin.
Personnel: Travis Tritt (vocals); Helen Plummer (vocals); Marty Stuart (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, background vocals); Billy Joe Walker, Jr. (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Richard Bennett (guitar, acoustic guitar); Paul Barrére (guitar, slide guitar); Reggie Young (guitar, 6-string bass); Dann Huff, ...
| | Greensleeves Rhythm Album 32 Threat Greensleeves Rhythm Album #32: Threat CD (2002) (Import) United Kingdom
The Saga Continues music CDs
$14.75 The 32nd installation in the Greensleeves Rhythm Album series is Threat, built by Steely & Clevie and produced by the hot dancehall producers Troy McLean and Garfield Hamilton. With a fiery rhythm blazing around a strong melodic hook, Threat indeed is guaranteed to menace the dancehalls. Always ready to storm the floors, Elephant Man gets the bashment going with his homage to "Ghetto Girls." Assassin is also ready to "Celebrate" with this lethal riddim. Beenie Man intends on seeing off the competition, threatening "Don't Come Around," but there's not a taker in sight, for the rest of the boys are too busy chasing the girls to pay him any mind. T.O.K. score with their perfect party piece, boldly declaring that "Where I'm From" "every man have a woman, dat a rule number one as a born Jamaican." Rule number two, apparently, is to dissect every aspect of a woman's physique, followed by rule number three: if you've got one, boast about her. And so they do, in a dizzying array of nonstop commentary across the set. Red Rat demands girl "Wine Your Waist," Mr. Vegas jumps on that bandwagon with "Gi Dem the Wine," while Beenie's baby brother Kirk Davis coaxes his ...
| | Uriah Heep Innocent Victim CD (1977)
The Saga Continues songs
$10.89 After breaking in new vocalist John Lawton on the back-to-basics outing Firefly, Uriah Heep once again found themselves feeling the need to experiment a bit on Innocent Victim. The resulting album doesn't cohere as neatly as Firefly did, but manages to keep the listener engaged thanks to a combination of slick performances from the band and a handful of truly great Uriah Heep songs. Overall, Innocent Victim's blend of sharp, short rockers and pop-friendly ballads feels like an attempt to court the American AOR market. The rockers are all pretty strong stuff: "Free 'n' Easy" is a fast-moving tune built on an ear-scorching guitar riff that feels like boogie rock in overdrive, while "Roller" is a stylish midtempo track that blends funky, languid verses with a faster, bass-driven chorus that ups the song's rock quotient. The band also weaves in some experimental tracks that hit the bull's eye: "Illusion" is a spacy tale about dreaming that creates a rich atmosphere through an arrangement ...
