| | Alice Russell Under The Munka Moon II CD - Import Alice Russell Discography of CDs
After the enormous success of My Favorite Letters, Alice Russell returns with a second collection of collaborations, remixes and alternate takes. Already established as a gifted vocalist and songwriter in her own right, the 13 tracks chosen for `Under The Munka Moon II' serve as a testament, not only to the breadth of Alice's appeal, but also to her versatility as an artist. Alice switches genres with natural grace and style, aided and abetted by her musical co-conspirators. Highlights include a certified future classic from the hugely popular Bugz In The Attic, who transform `Could Heaven Ever Be Like This' by Japanese electronica don Susumu Yokota into a funky broken beat number, perfect for those long summer nights. The Boub remix of `Hurry On Now' twists the original into a head-nodding, hip-swinging 80s inspired reggae number. Nu:Tone deliver an infectious, jazzy drum & bass roller while Bonobo and Wyndham Earl provide laid back, soulful gems. DJ Vadim's acclaimed hip hop re-rub of `A Fly In The Hand' makes a welcome appearance as does the incendiary Nostalgia 77 cover of `Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes. Other collaborators include Unforscene, Natural Self and TM Juke. The album is also peppered with exclusive stripped-down live tracks, which breathe new life into Alice's own back catalogue. In particular, an acoustic cut of `Mean To Me' forgoes the horns and electronic glitz of the studio version for a seductive vaudevillian folk feel, perfectly tailored for the intimacy of smoky music-hall backrooms or twilight gypsy campfires. Under The Munka Moon II CD music
$19.59 GOO was Sonic Youth's major label debut and allowed the band to blend its skewed sense of aesthetic and cultural criticism into a more understandable stab at pop culture. GOO unleashed the band's ability to create monster riffs out of fuzzy, unlikely tunings, while bringing their once aloof songwriting into a more pop-sensitive light.
GOO's stunning collection of material once again highlighted Sonic Youth's unique writing talents. "Dirty Boots" and "Mary Christ" showed Thurston Moore's delicious slant on rock melody. Yet it was Kim Gordon who stole the show with her chilling "Tunic (Song For Karen)" and the brilliant "Kool Thing."
In "Tunic," Gordon wrapped her cunning insight around the Karen Carpenter story: "I feel like I'm disappearing/Getting smaller every day/But I look in the mirror/And I'm getting bigger in every way..." The song was one of the album's many attempts at understanding the mechanics of pop stardom. "Kool Thing" summed up rock's once blatant "fear of a female planet" by placing women rockers in a rap context. "Are you going to liberate us girls/From male, white, corporate ...

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Under The Munka Moon II songs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean -- is giddily addicting, a celebration of all the strange sensuality that comes out at night.

Under The Munka Moon II album
$10.49 The 1980 new wave album from the dramatic English romantic movement includes "Blocks on Blocks" and "Steps."
With apologies to Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, and even Duran Duran, this is the music that best represents the short-lived but always underrated new romantic movement. That's fitting, because Visage's frontman, Steve Strange, was the colorfully painted face of the movement, just as this album was its sound. Warming up Kraftwerk's icy Teutonic electronics with a Bowie-esque flair for fashion, Strange and the new romantics created a clubland oasis far removed from the drabness of England's early-'80s reality -- and the brutality of the punk response to it. And no one conjured up that Eurodisco fantasyland better than Visage, whose "Fade to Grey" became the anthem of the outlandishly decked-out Blitz Kids congregated at Strange's club nights. With its evocative French female vocals, distant sirens and pulsing layers of synthesizers, "Fade to Grey" is genuinely haunting, the definite high ...
