El Hombre Que Mas Te Amo album
$6.75 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, Wind and Fire-ish "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You." But other than that, there are no surprises, just straight-ahead digitally remastered Dazz Band blasts that blow you away in CD format ("Let It Whip"'s bassline is hypnotizing). For lovers, "Invitation to Love" and "Knock, Knock" are bonafide heart stirrers and the only two slow jams in the bunch. Not as complete as the 1994 Funkology: The Definitive Dazz Band but dazzling enough. ~ Andrew Hamilton

| | Aventura God's Project CD (2005)
El Hombre Que Mas Te Amo CD music
$13.85 Since its formation in the Bronx, New York in 1994, Dominican boy band Aventura has been steadily expanding its sound toward a style that incorporates hip-hop, R&B, rock, merengue, and reggaeton, while still retaining strong traces of traditional bachata. GOD'S PROJECT is the culmination of Aventura's stylistic expansion, and is the group's most mature, diverse, and accomplished album.
The sounds of bachata--the quartet's foundation--are still prominent, especially on "Ciego de Amor," which features a cameo by Antony Santos, one of the Dominican Republic's leading bachata artists (not to be confused with Aventura's own Anthony "Romeo" Santos). The group also ventures deep into reggaeton territory on the likes of "Ella y Yo" (which stars reggaeton kingpin Don Omar). Various international flavors work their way into the mix, ...

| | Forget Cassettes Salt CD (2006)
El Hombre Que Mas Te Amo music CDs
$10.69 Every year, countless people from different parts of the United States move to Nashville with one goal in mind: to have a career in country music. They don't necessarily sing, write songs or play an instrument; perhaps they are interested in A&R, publicity or promotions. But whether their goal is performing or working in a behind-the-scenes capacity, so many of the music-minded people who live in Nashville have country music (or at least some type of Americana or roots rock) on the brain. There are many exceptions, however -- and Forget Cassettes is a definite exception. This Nashville-based group has nothing whatsoever to do with country, Americana or roots rock; the focus of Salt, their second album, is darkly introspective but often combustible alt rock/indie rock that draws on direct or indirect influences such as PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Lydia Lunch, Hole and Nirvana. But while lead singer/guitarist Beth Cameron has some of Amos' melodic and harmonic sensibilities, Forget Cassettes rocks much harder -- and like Harvey, the expressive Cameron favors a very stream-of-consciousness approach. Throughout the high-angst album, Cameron fluctuates between darkly brooding melodies and moments of angry, explosive release. Salt is an album of contrasts, and Cameron handles herself memorably ...
