Standard Screen; Soundtrack English George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a low-budget, homegrown classic that had great difficulty finding a distributor at the time of its release in 1968, and has since become one of the most influential horror films of all time. (Aside from its visceral impact years before realistic gore became the fashion, the film is also important for its portrayal of a black man as the protagonist during a time when race was an extremely sensitive issue in the United States.) The plot is simple: seven people secluded in a Pennsylvania farmhouse face relentless attacks by reanimated corpses seeking to eat their flesh. The group, which includes a married couple and their daughter, a pair of young lovers, and an African-American man, try to keep their sanity as the living dead keep trying to enter the house. Radio news reports tell of the plague taking over the eastern United States, while the ever-decreasing band of survivors rapidly loses ground in the battle to both keep peace with one another and stay alive. Theatrical release: October 1, 1968.
Filmed in 1964 in the countryside around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD was added to the Library of Congress National Film Registry in 1999.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD was director George Romero's first feature film.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD produced two sequels, DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) and DAY OF THE DEAD (1985); one remake, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1990); and countless imitations.
William Hinzman, who appeared as the Cemetery Zombie at the beginning of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, also served as cinematographer on Romero's THE CRAZIES.
The film was made for $114,000. Night Of The Living Dead Quotes/Excerpts: "Beat 'em or burn 'em. They go up pretty easy." - Zombie hunter on television news coverage
"They're coming to get you, Barbara!" - Johnny (Russell Streiner) taunting Barbara (Judith O' Dea) in the cemetery, just before he is attacked by a zombie

A must have classic in 3D!!! This was the first time I saw George Romero´s movie, and sincerely, i liked it a lot, I don´t care it´s just black & white, but with all that restrictions, no special effect, etc.. He made a great movie that became a classic, and this 3D version, sincerely was the best choice to see it. Submitted by a reviewer (JMS in Coapa, Mexico City) Was This Review Helpful? Night Of The Living Dead review
$14.79 This gleefully deranged cult favorite marked the feature debut of Jack Hill (COFFY, THE SWITCHBLADE SISTERS) and one of the final screen appearances of horror icon Lon Chaney Jr. The story takes place at the home of the Merrye family, victims of a strange disease that degenerates its victims to a pre-human, cannibal state. The sole remaining survivors are the family chauffeur, Bruno (Chaney), sexually precocious sisters Elizabeth (Beverly Washburn) and Virginia (Jill Banner) and their animal-like brother Ralph (Sid Haig). The kids like to stalk and kill anything that gets into the yard, including an unlucky telegram messenger (Mantan Moreland), and when some greedy relatives eager to claim the family fortune intrude upon their familial bliss, an evening of wild, murderous thrills is certain.
Hill leavens the gruesome horrors of this film with sly wit, and even some touching moments; a tearful monologue by Chaney is a surprisingly moving highlight, and works eloquently as a farewell from the great star. Chanry also sings the zany title song. Fans of THE ADDAMS FAMILY or the films of Tim Burton are urged to check out this special midnight treat, which only gets better with repeat viewings.
his highly influential cult classic from writer-director Jack Hill (The Switchblade Sisters, Foxy Brown) tells the demented and darkly comic tale of the Merrye children -- Elizabeth (Beverly Washburn), Virginia (Jill Banner) and Ralph (Sid Haig)-- all of who suffer from a rare genetic malady in which ...

Night Of The Living Dead video
$8.45 Peter Webber (GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING) directs the latest installment about the monstrous cannibal Hannibal Lecter, revealing the facts of his childhood and the birth of his troubled mind. When he is a young boy in Lithuania, Hannibal and his privileged family flee their castle as both the Nazi and Russian troops advance, going into hiding in a nearby humble cottage. But the war quickly finds them, and Hannibal witnesses horrible atrocities against his family, particularly from a local independent force of brutes led by the creepy Grutas (Rhys Ifans). Years after the war, teenage Hannibal (Gaspard Ulliel) leaves Lithuania and travels to France, where his uncle's wife, Lady Murasaki (Gong Li), takes him in and befriends him. A gifted medical student, Hannibal studies corpses and anatomy with extreme diligence, but dreams of tracking down and destroying those who harmed him and his family. Soon, he is acting on his impulses, hunting down the perpetrators from his youth and inflicting cruel punishment.
Ulliel is chilling as the stone-faced Hannibal, clearly scarred by his tragic past and ever more determined to exact revenge. Li is luminous onscreen, and her mysterious character deserves more development. Ifans, perhaps best known for his turn as the goofy roommate in NOTTING HILL, is a menacing bully with a heart of stone. Dominic West appears as Inspector Popil, a French detective specializing in war crimes who suffered his own losses during the war, making him sympathetic towards Hannibal even though he is convinced of his guilt. Thomas Harris, the author of the Hannibal series that also includes THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, RED DRAGON, ...
| | Cannibal Holocaust DVDs (1980)
Night Of The Living Dead film
$19.99 CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST was for years reviled as one of the most repugnant and morally questionable of the 1970s spate of cannibal films--and possibly the most horrifying ever. But director Ruggero Deodato embarked upon the project with the intention of criticizing the very violence he was portraying. Set in the Amazonian jungles, the film is a pseudo-documentary that follows Professor Harold Moore (Robert Kerman) into the "Green Inferno" as he searches for a documentary crew that came to the jungle the previous year to make a film about the storied cannibals that lived there, and never made it back. Now, Moore meets some natives and discovers the footage from the crew's expedition, and upon returning to New York, he watches it to find out what really happened. The truth is too horrible for words, proving that savagery is not limited to indigenous peoples, and the morally outrageous film proceeds to indict the exploitative practices of certain documentary practices. However, the extremity of the violence portrayed was enough to put Deodato in hot water with the law, and with censors who claimed it was far too realistic. The career of the promising director, who had worked under a list of Italian luminaries that included Roberto Rossellini (ROME: OPEN CITY, PAISAN, VOYAGE IN ITALY), was essentially ...

Night Of The Living Dead movie DVD
$22.69 This box set includes three of pioneering gore-meister Herschell Gordon Lewis's bloody masterpieces.
BLOOD FEAST: Schlock king Herschell Gordon Lewis' magnum opus about an affluent Florida suburb terrorized by Fuad Ramses, an Isis-worshipping psychopathic caterer who tries to resurrect the spirit of the goddess by preparing a ritual feast of human organs. His intended dessert is former Playboy Playmate Mason, who, during one scene, reads her lines from a script on a nearby coffee table. Arguably the first horror movie to feature explicit gore. Also features a gripping tympani score composed and performed by Lewis himself. Incalculable historical and cult value. 2000 MANIACS: Three couples on a cross-country trip are detoured off the main road and find themselves in the middle of a strange ghost town populated by civil war casualties. They're all about to earn a red badge of courage.
COLOR ME BLOOD RED: A demented artist finds that his paintings sell better when he uses actual human blood for his red pigments. Not wanting to use his own vital fluids, the artist begins killing his models and disemboweling them when his red paint supply runs low.
Herschell Gordon Lewis' pioneering "gore" films in deluxe Special Editions! First, Mrs. Fremont hires crackpot Egyptian cultist Fuad Ramses to cater a party--and he prepares a Blood Feast made from the grisly body parts of nubile young women. The world's first gore film! Then the Two Thousand Maniacs of a small Southern town celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Civil War by forcing a handful of Northerners to serve as "guests" in their macabre, blood-crazed fun and games. And when his girlfriend, Gigi, cuts her finger on a frame, maniacal artist Adam Sorg discovers a new shade of crimson ...

Night Of The Living Dead video
$17.69 A ragged group of eccentric Southern townspeople are forced to band together to fight off a zombie invasion in this raucous, entertaining, gloriously low-budget horror/comedy from directors Chuck Hartsell and Chance Shirley.
I've been playing music for my entire life...Played in the Big Boys from '79 to '84, Poison 13 from '83 - '85, Junkyard from '86 -'92, the Skatenigs in '93 & '94, 99pounds from '96 to 2001, The Charter Bulldogs from 2002 - 2005, and now this. Pretty cool... Gatesville actually began with a conversation... I was talking to my buddy Jon Dee Graham about the fact that I hadn't really written much that was meaningful lyrically for nearly 10 years - First I was such a mess that I lost the ability, then when I sorted myself out I spent several years working with an amazing vocalist and lyricist names Lisa Loomis (99pounds), where my job was to create music for her words and melodies. Then came the Charter Bulldogs, where the meaningful bit was more in HOW we played than what we said... The Bulldogs lead me back into lyric writing, and eventually to Jon Dee's front porch. A couple of months into writing and demoing the songs it dawned on me that I was actually in the process of starting a solo project - an idea that was a bit daunting after 25 years of writing and letting someone else do the singing... Around that time I ran into Brendan Ryan and Lenny Sanchez (my original bass player and drummer) and we began rehearsing the tunes. I guess finding Tony was meant to be, because a bunch of unrelated events and mutual friends kept pointing us together, and before I even really had a chance to think about auditioning anyone he came in and that was that. Hand in glove, brother...hand in glove. Lenny & his wife had a baby, and so he got real busy with family stuff (always more important...) and Brendan wanted to do other things musically, so they stepped out and Big Rick and Bobby stepped right in without missing a beat, - once again, meant to be... So now our first record just came out, we're gigging a bunch and having a ball. Playing music I love with guys I love hanging out with... doesn't get much better than that...
