| Let It Bleed, Forever And Ever, Amen. This album is a masterpiece, it's that simple. The Stones were "inspired" when they wrote and recorded it. The first cut, "Gimmie Shelter", is one of the GREATEST rock songs ever made. The last cut, "You Can't Always Get What You Want", is one of the greatest power ballads ever made. It describes the turmoil of the 60's, personal and political, and the choir dramatically illuminates the lyrical content. It is just breathtaking. In between these 2 monumental cuts, you will find such gems as: "Love In Vain" - lowdown blues with fantastic interplay between Mick's flawless vocal and the guitarists' licks "Country Honk" - the title says it all "Midnight Rambler" - the seamy side of criminal life, given the full sleaze treatment "Monkey Man" - awesome lyrics, blistering guitars, great tinkly piano. As far as the title cut is concerned, "Let It Bleed" is ABSOLUTELY the most deliciously NASTY counterculture song I have ever heard IN MY LIFE! Look, if you like classic rock and you somehow don't have this album, get it NOW. If you have a worn-out LP, like I did, buy the remastered CD. It's worth it. That's it! I can say no more. | Awesome The remastering has definitely helped the overall sound of this album. Mick's vocals are clearer, the bass is more pronounced and Keith's guitars sound as if he's in the room with you. A must buy for any Stones fan. By a reviewer (Tennessee) This review is for a different format. |
| Hard Knocks And Dirty Sox. Hard Rocks, Too! The Stones' all time best album; "Let It Bleed" was their magnum opus and an excellent way to close the Sixties. From the opening guitar riff on "Gimme Shelter" to the closing choral section and bursting percussion on "You Can't Always Get What You Want", every track was great. The Stones ran the gammut from hard rock to dirty blues to country and quasi-classical. I'd save this one from the hurricane. By Will-T (Lawrenceburg IN) This review is for a different format. |
| Great album, but not SACD I wish CD Universe would fix their categorization system that causes this CD to appear in the SACD category. True, it was remastered from original tapes using the DSD process, but stll, it is a 16 bit / 44.1 Khz CD, not a SACD. The DSD process has done a great job at extracting every detail from the tapes, though. This CD sounds superior in every way to my previous CD copy of this album.
