With the exception of the final track ("Magog"), this is a very good example of early Hammill solo work, ably assisted by David Jackson's haunting sax. "Tapeworm" is a rocky, powerful number while "Again" is an evocative, sad love song. "Magog" is a succession of bizzare, echoing, dark sounds, totally unrepresentative of Hammill's work, probably recorded with a good sprinkling of humour and tongue pushed firmly into cheek. ~ Ali Sinclair
2006 issued digitally remastered edtion of Hammill's third solo album that was originally released in 1974. The original 7 tracks have been augmented with three more that didn't appear on the original LP issue: "Emperor In His War Room", "Faint Heart & The Sermon" and "(No More) The Sub Mariner". | | Martial Solal Dodecaband Plays Ellington CD (2000) (Import) France
In Camera music CDs
$14.79 Incredibly, both at the time this was recorded and when it was released, the very fine French pianist and outstanding arranger Martial Solal was barely a blip on the radar screen in the United States, despite decades of output. Here, he produces one of the best dedications to Duke Ellington ever with total reworkings of some of the Duke's most famous compositions. Solal writes that his goal was "...to show, by means of well-known pieces, that the job of the arranger is actually a compositional task." In this, he succeeds. By transforming such classics of the jazz repertoire ...
| | Twinkle Golden Lights CD (1993) Bonus Track
In Camera songs
$15.39 Recalling Twinkle for anything other than the 1965 death ballad "Terry" demands a feat of memory far beyond the majority of British Invasion fans. But dismissing her as simply a one-hit-wonder whose greatest subsequent claim to fame was having a follow-up covered by the Smiths ("Golden Lights") is an injustice that this collection goes out of its way to remedy. "Terry" itself is magnificent -- Phil Spector meets the Shangri-Las on a rain-slicked English back-road. Banned by both the BBC and British TV's top pop show, Ready Steady Go, on the grounds of bad taste, it made the U.K. Top Five without touching the brakes and should have set up Twinkle for never-ending fame. And it might have -- one can only imagine what would have happened had her early career been handled by Andrew Loog Oldham, for example, as opposed to a last-gasp hurrah. For Twinkle's own team was considerably less well-versed in her requirements, while she herself swiftly lost patience with the star machine cranking noisily around her. The shimmering "Golden Lights," the follow-up single, was a barely disguised assault on the ease with which fame changes people, written from the point of view of a faithful girl spurned by her newly glittering boyfriend, while a sparkling cover of Reparata & the Delrons' "Tommy" was harpooned by Twinkle's own loathing of the song. By 1966, Twinkle had retired from the music industry; she was just 17. The first 14 tracks here wrap up Twinkle's heyday with every track she recorded for Decca, and almost all of them stand as shimmering peaks of Invasion-era pop. Three years elapse before "Micky" and "Darby & Joan" finally usher in the partnership ...

$11.49 As We Walk RecordsKenny Martin carries a message of hope, dignity, and love with humor and compassion. His music is a fusion of rock and jazz influences filtered through a variety of keyboards, kick-in rhythm section and a smoking saxophone. His vocal style and harmonies are reminiscent of rock greats, while taking you to new heights in contemporary music. Kenny Martin came from an unknown part of the galaxy and landed on this planet in 1967 near a small island close to Detroit, Michigan called Gross Ile. Kenny instantly had an affinity for music and started playing the piano at the age of four. At the time, Kenny was inspired by The Beatles, Yes, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, and Todd Rungren. At the age of seven, Kenny became more serious and was inspired by Chick Corea, Gino Vannelli and George Duke. His first gig came at the age of eighteen playing the piano at The Montauk Yatch Club. He then attended Ithaca College where he studied music and broadcasting. By this time, Steely Dan had become a big influence on Kenny and he became more of a writer and singer. Kenny played in a number of bands and ended up in Montreal where he started making more serious albums, including his critically-acclaimed CD “As We Walk.†After playing in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, Kenny has returned to Las Vegas ready to hit the big-time with “Tomorrow's Memory†and to play LIVE on the Famous Las Vegas Strip. The latest breaking news has Kenny Martin welcoming the highly accomplished musician Ronnie Foster as his band leader and keyboard artist. Together they plan to take the Las Vegas Strip music scene to a different level with these freshly inspired songs from both of the new album releases currently available.
