| | Rammstein Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CDs (2009) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Life After Death CD music
$17.79 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and there's no threat of the album becoming ponderous either as the economical tracklist and purposeful songs wipe away the sins of their previous album, 2005's ROSENROT. The group's loyal fans have remained with ...

Life After Death songs
$15.65 Nickleback's sixth album doesn't stake out new ground, but this Canadian post-grunge quartet is known for their allegiance to old-school hard rock values. That allegiance is borne out on 2008's DARK HORSE, a collection of riff-driven rockers and power ballads that thrives on simple chord progressions, distortion-heavy guitars, and lyrics ...
| | Pantera Cowboys From Hell CD (1990)
Life After Death album
$5.79 In the tradition of bands such as Metallica and Judas Priest, Pantera put themselves on the map with supercharged blues-based metal riffs and screaming/singing vocals. Adding groove to their artistic aggression made COWBOYS FROM HELL a landmark for the band.
With the relentless "Primal Concrete Sledge," Pantera take a chance and incorporate industrial elements into their style, a risky move for a metal band in 1990. "Psycho Holiday" showcases machine-gun syncopation while "Heresy" matches thrash ...

| | Booker T & The MG's Very Best Of Booker T. & The MG'S CD (1994)
Life After Death music CDs
$8.89 Rhino has done all music fans a favor by combining material from the two period-specific best-of compilations available (the early MG's Stax catalogue was sold to Atlantic, the later to Fantasy) on one 16-track set. The band's early singles, including "Groovin'," "Hip Hug-Her" and, of course, "Green Onions," are combined here with their late '60s hits such as "Hang 'em High" and "Time is Tight." Donald "Duck" Dunn and drummer Al Jackson's in-the-pocket locks, Steve Cropper's stinging guitar lines and Booker T. Jones' funkified organ create a sound that comes across as fresh and infectious today as it did in ...

| | Axxis Time Machine CD (2004)
Life After Death CD music
$13.05 Someone kindly forgot to tell the members of Axxis that everyone outside of Germany thinks they broke up immediately after releasing their debut, Kingdom of the Night, in 1989. How else to explain the band's insistence on recording many of their subsequent albums with the help of name producers on American soil, where no one was any the wiser. Released in 2004, Time Machine is -- get this -- the band's eighth studio album and, all kidding aside, perhaps the biggest point of concern would be that their sound has progressed hardly one bit since birth, with the occasional use of speed metal-derived double kick-drums as possibly the only exception. Having said all that, first single "Angel of Death" is palatable enough (although some may have been hoping for a cover of the Slayer classic, chances are Axxis have never heard it) and "The Demons Are Calling" features some clever keyboard work to go with its solid ...
