(1 Customer Review)
'Ahead of their time' is a much used phrase to describe some of the most creative groups and The Sisters Love were most definitely that. In 1980 New York DJ Danny Krivit released an extended eight-minute cut-up of a track called 'Give Me Your Love' by The Sisters Love. Already an underground disco classic (partly on account of its rarity), this release brought it to a new audience of disco and rare groove fans. Twenty years on and Soul Jazz Records are bringing together an amazing collection of Soul/Funk/early Disco cuts from this cult group who only ever released singles (on Motown and A&M), the scarcity of which has made some of them œ100 records! Give Me Your Love
$9.95 Arranger: J.J. Jackson. Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written by Jackson, covered by the Pretty Things, and then reclaimed powerfully here), and "Boogaloo ...

Give Me Your Love
$13.45 Personnel: Arturo O'Farrill (piano); Arturo O'Farrill; Andy González (bass instrument, bass guitar); Dafnis Prieto (drums). Liner Note Author: Larry Blumenfeld. Recording information: Up Over Jazz Cafe, Brooklyn, NY (08/08/2003/08/09/2003). Despite the Young Lion movement of the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, jazz isn't nearly as youth-obsessed as rock, dance-pop, or rap. Jazz is full of talented people who were late bloomers in some respect -- singers and instrumentalists who spent considerable time in the shed and might have been 35, 40, or even older the first time they composed original material, landed a recording contract, or recorded an album as a leader. Arturo O'Farrill certainly didn't start recording as a leader right away; the acoustic pianist was in ...
| | William Parker First Communion / Piercing The Veil CDs (2001) Complete
Give Me Your Love
$16.99 Personnel: William Parker (shakahachi, bass, balafon, drums, dumbeck); Hamid Drake (drums, tabla, bells). Recorded live at Systems Two Studios, Brooklyn, New York on April 3, 2000. Personnel: William Parker (double bass); Hamid Drake (drums, percussion). Bassist William Parker is one of the galvanic forces in contemporary free jazz, driven by a wildly experimental sensibility and a greatly varied, yet heavily percussive bass technique. Parker first played with percussionist Hamid Drake in saxophonist Peter Brotzmann's trio, creating carefully crafted sonic mayhem. The solo pairing of Parker and Drake here is ...
