| Retroglide Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) So close.... Musically, a great album filled with all the things that I've loved about Level 42 since 1985. It's funky, uplifting, tight (as you'd expect).
Theres two things that have disappointed me though.
One, the production is atrocious. Its compressed to hell, resulting in a very boxy and at times tinny sound that I can't listen to on headphones without getting a headache by track 4. I think the main culprit is the recording of Gary Husband's sterling drums. How does this happen?? You'd think after 25 years they'd have an idea, or is this M.K.'s idea of good sound from a home studio. Even 'Standing In The Light' was produced better, and I used to think it was thin. Theres no listing of producer or studios on the credits, and I'm not surprised. A major disappointment.
Two, Mike Lindup's inclusion seems to be an afterthought and you can't really tell he's on any tracks at all. His signature vocals are nowhere in sight, drowned out by Mark's own multi-tracked harmony. Mike has no songwriting credit and only appears playing keys and the aforementioned vocals on tracks 1, 6, 9, 10. At least Boon gets a nice solo on 'Ship'.
It's a good album with good songs and great musicianship, I hope they get the impetus do to another, hopefully like the 'band' they used to be, and with an outside producer and good studio. Eleven years is a long time to wait. Key tracks "Dive into the sun", "Rooted", "Sleep talking", "Retroglide". Submitted by Woody (NSW, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? New Level 42 This is some of the best Level 42 ever........With Gould and King writing again, it doesn't get a whole lot better..... Submitted by mmoore10 (Belton,Texas,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
nice songs...HORRIBLE production/mastering!!! These songs are nice but still not close to Guaranteed in my opinion. Strange how the bonus track is in my opinion the strongest piece on the album. Now to the bad part...as an individual noted above the production and mastering is a disgrace. It's so so so compressed that it's fringing on unlistenable. I noticed credits to IK media on the insleeve. This is an decent quality amateur software mastering plug in and I have a feeling this is what was used to master Retroglide. Why wasn't this professionally mixed and mastered??? I can't believe that the band let this one slide. I'm going to try to get my money back. This cost me nearly $40 dollars with shipping. When I spend $40 bucks I want to get my money's worth. Submitted by Phillip (San Diego, Ca) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not Really I notice this is being advertised as SACD now.....be careful people, it's in a SACD-like super jewel case but the disc certainly ain't SACD, check my previous review for sound quality issues. I've searched the web high and low for any confirmation of SACD release but can't find any. Its a pity, sort of got excited for a minute..... Retroglide album
$11.85 "America is like a giant retarded trust fund kid"; "I was late to an ether frolic"; "Angie Dickinson could suck..." well, that last line's better left for Patton Oswalt himself to finish. Let's back up. An acerbically funny standup and underrated comedic actor, Oswalt finally gets his own album with Feelin' Kinda Patton, and there's a good chance Wal-Mart isn't stocking it. Speaking too quickly for your kidneys to process the laugh pain, Oswalt puts a pincer through the strata of American society, skewering everyone from the President and his curious motives, to decadent Hollywood producer Robert Evans, to gumpy Midwestern Fashion Bug workers naïvely laying '80s pop/soap opera discard Michael Damian behind the Tilt-A-Whirl. "That's the one thing I like about George Bush," he says in "Come On Apocalypse." "I really think he can get us into the Apocalypse." But while the Prez definitely raises Oswalt's hackles, his Bush bit only sets up a description of why it'd be so great to buy the farm during such an event. As he says, it's a better way to go than getting eaten by fire ants, right? There's a bit of David Cross in Oswalt's style, mostly in ...

Retroglide music CDs
$28.19 Detroit's Cobo Hall on May 8, 1970, is the setting for Live in Detroit, the first complete concert performance on the Doors' own Bright Midnight label. This is the Doors the way they deserve to be remembered -- tight and overtly bluesy. However, that oversimplification unfairly discounts the multiple sonic detours made along the way. Strange but true, this is the very first complete concert recording by the Doors to be offered for mass consumption -- allowing for some poetic justice. Live in Detroit is an initial step in removing the rumor and innuendo regarding Jim Morrison's loss of ability to perform on stage -- with the threat of an impending legal trial. No, this isn't the same trippy, hippy, psychedelic band that raised eyebrows by singing "higher" on The Ed Sullivan Show. Similarly, the world had grown in the intervening years. While this set is chocked full of early favorites such as "Break on Through," "Light My Fire," and the rarely documented "The End," the Doors' souls are full of the blues. Snippets of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" and Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" connect and propel the band into live musical experiments. They also certify the Doors' own blues, such as "Roadhouse Blues," "You Make Me Real," and "Been Down So Long." Taking cues from Morrison, the power trio of Manzarek, Krieger, and Densmore evolve the artistry of being able to network Morrison's impromptu ...

Retroglide CD music
$41.75 This release from 1971 is progressive rock group, Jade Warrior's debut release.
Jade Warrior's first album following Tony Duhig and Jon Field's emergence out of the psychedelic July captures them abandoning the best of that band's whimsical moodiness in favor of a symphonic spirituality epitomized from the outset by the soaring guitars that ecstatically slice through the opening "Traveller." Reminiscent, in places, of a less-precious successor to Quintessence and the Incredible String Band in that moods and esotericism do sometimes get the better of the band's more conventional music impulses, Jade Warrior is nevertheless a remarkable album, all the more so since its makers could readily have given the likes of Jethro Tull and the Moody Blues some serious competition in the mellifluous prog stakes. Glyn Havard's vocals themselves ...
