Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English In a seemingly ordinary southern town, trucks, cars, lawnmowers, electric knives and various other motorized machines spring to life and begin killing off the local population. A disparate band of town residents take refuge in a nearby truckstop and try to stave off the murderous machines with a desperate last stand. A nightmare world of machines are taking over the Earth. At first the problems seem minor as gas pumps stop pumping fuel, video games flash and beep uncontrollably, and soda machines spit change and soda pop wildly. However, when the carnage begins, a small group of people make a last stand against a horde of massive 18-wheelers. A comic horror flick from Stephen King, based on his short story "Trucks." Maximum Overdrive Reviews: "...[The] entire film looks good, highlighted by Armando Nannuzzi's crisp cinematography...[The] Heavy metal score by AC/DC fits like a glove..."

This is the only Christopher Murvey video. Maximum Overdrive Movie Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) Good movie, good price. Although Stephen King, has had better thrillers, and horror movies. To me this one stands out in a way. I guess the reason is because I am A BIG AC/DC fan, and the music for this movie is great! I like it the same now, as I did in the eighties when I seen it at the movie theatre.

LOVE IT! I absolutely love 80's movies. This one happens to have the 80's humor/horror of Stephen King. Emilio Estevez is HOT in this movie also, as he always is. Went on a mission a few years back to find this movie and finally did add it to my movie collection. The humor of Stephen King along with the horror of his dreams allow you to stomach this movie. Then with the fun of the soundtrack of AC/DC! Just overall goodness! Submitted by terri.busalacchi (West Bend, WI, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 3 found this helpful.
Great movie This is a classic 80's movie from Stephen King. It was filmed in North Carolina, and is about electronical appliances and vehicles gaining "life" as a comet flies over the earth. Great soundtrack too, all music by AC/DC! Submitted by robbiea_1 (Durham, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
I gave it 3 stars since my Wife Loves this Movie.. Sorry to break up the love fest, guys, but I hate this movie, even though it was filmed in my hometown, and I know where all the locations are. My wife, however, loves it for its cheesy richness.
That was, in fact, the face of the Green Goblin from Spider-Man comics, and I have even touched it, it was fiberglass, obviously.
Bits of trivia for ya:
Stephen King has admitted that he smoked pot the entire time this movie was in production.
The 'Dixie Boy' was built for the movie, explicitely to be torn down. It was never a functioning gas station. This did not, however, keep local truckers from pulling over and disrupting production by trying to tank up.
Pat Hingle, Comissioner Gordon from the "Batman" movies, now lives in the area where the film was shot.
The studio Dino DeLaurentis built for FIRESTARTER prior to this Stephen King film, and CAT'S EYE (which were both shot in the Wilmington, NC, area) was later sold to SCREEN GEMS, once DEG went out of business. It is still owned by SCREEN GEMS to this day.
And...
The Survivors of the Dixie Boy...
...are still survivors.
