After his second release, HI-TEKNOLOGY 2: THE CHIP, Cincinnati native DJ Hi-Tek can sit at the table with hip-hop legends like DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and Dr. Dre--all of whom have shown that the mark of a great producer, aside from making consistently hard beats to get your head nodding, is the ability to bring out the very best in those you share studio time with. Hi-Tek has a smorgasbord of talent here, and every one of them--Talib Kweli, Raekwon, Ghostface, Jadakiss, Common, and many others--spit at their fullest potential.Vibe (p.174) - "[T]he divide between Tek's brooding sonic think pieces and his booming mainstream club jams really isn't that wide after all." XXL (Magazine) (p.154) - "Sticking to his previous blueprint, Tek gathers an array of artist to groove to is melodic, head-snapping rhythms." Pure Fire??! Hells Nahhh!! What album did ya'll listen to??! I'm guessing ya'll never heard 'Reflection Eternal' or 'Hiteknology', cuz this was NOwhere near those two!
Hi-Tek2?!
Nahhh playa! "Hi-Teknology" is classic.
This CD is actually boring! I was thinking with a title like 'The Chip', he was gonna bring some new, futuristic type ish, (like the Neptunes or Timbo) but NOPE! - just a bunch of slow-to mid-tempo soul samples and mediocre raps!
I tried to like this CD, I really did! ....but after several attempts I literally threw it out of my car window. Sadly disappointed!!
I only gave it 2 stars becuz I like Hi-Tek and I gotta rep Ohio, but a whack CD is a whack CD.
I had to throw in 'Reflection' just to bump that "Move Somethin'" joint, and get this bad taste out of my mouth! Submitted by williest1 (Austin, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Good.. This is an alright album I mean it really depends on wich mood you are into when you put the cd in your recordplayer. This is a relaxing album and is for the most part very slow and quite boring really. But if you are in the mood for a record to play in the background while you are doing other things this is the album for you. Standout tracks are "Josephine" and "Where it started at (NY)". I was going to give it 2 stars but it would not be fair to a usually great producer. Submitted by Freddie (Sweden) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Real HIP-HOP It's been a while listenin to a pure hip-hop album like the good old times. Hip-hop purist are sick of that south-move-ass productions. Hi-Tek brings us the same feeling that he gave us with Reflection Eternal. Even Talib sounds better with him. A master piece. Submitted by realrory (Canary Islands - Spain) Was This Review Helpful? Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's ...
| | DJ Quik Trauma CD (2005)
Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip
$13.89 DJ Quik is the essence of West Coast Hip-Hop, having been there from the early days when Compton was asserting itself as the voice of rap as the 1980s bled into the 1990s, and TRAUMA, the rapper/producer's seventh album and first in 3 years, finds Quik as relevant and potent in both lyrics and beats as when he dropped QUIK IS THE NAME. Never flashy, Quik finds art in simplicity, as ...

Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip
$9.95 You're Only as Pretty as You Feel, by Caroleen Beatty (with Mushroom and Heavy Friends), is something of a sequel to Mushroom's collaboration with Gary Floyd, Mad Dogs and San Franciscans. Both albums feature great songs from the '60s and '70s, but not performed as a retro-homage or with tongue in cheek. Instead, one gets the sense that these are tunes that the musicians really enjoy, and really enjoy playing. The songs may look on paper like they wouldn't necessarily hang together (Bill Withers, Pentangle, Jefferson Airplane, Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll, and Ginger Baker's Air Force), ...
