| | Jill Olson My Best Yesterday CD (2002)
Body And The Soil album
$10.09 Jill Olson was watching the 2002 Academy Awards with friends when, all of a sudden, she heard a very familiar song. Halle Berry had just won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in "Monster's Ball," and conductor John Williams struck up the band -- playing "Broken Up and Blue," a tune Jill wrote and recorded with her band Red Meat! "I was in a state of shock," Jill admits.Hearing her song -- which appears on "Monster's Ball" soundtrack -- on the Oscars was only the latest of a series of career highlights for Jill, a singer, songwriter and bass player who hails from Ottumwa, Iowa, but has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since the late 1980s. Jill first made a name for herself with the Movie Stars, a Bay Area folk-rock ...
| | Kitaro Daylight, Moonlight: Live In Yakushiji CDs (2002)
Body And The Soil CD music
$13.62 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
In the seventh century CE Genjo Sanzo walked the length of the Silk Road from Japan to India and back, bringing with him the scriptures that introduced Buddhism to Japan and China. On this live two-disc album, recorded at the monastery where Genjo's ashes are harbored, Kitaro attempts to capture the passions that sustained the monk on his long journeys.
The album opens with the somber, unadorned chanting of the Yakushiji monks. As with most of his studio albums, DAYLIGHT, MOONLIGHT finds Kitaro effortlessly bridging the traditional and the forward-thinking, particularly on songs such as "Hazimari/Sozo" and "Estrella." The standout track, "Mercury," originally featured on his Grammy Award-winning album THINKING OF YOU, finds his flute gliding over a sparse industrial landscape. In all, a strong set that lives up to the story of the monk who inspired it.
For over a quarter century, Japan's Kitaro has been an internationally recognized icon and globally acclaimed composer and musician. Influenced early on by American rock and R&B, Kitaro began experimenting with synthesizers and a rainbow of unconventional sounds in the mid-'70s. His pioneering fusion of electronic artistry, traditional Japanese forms, and pop-inflected Western idioms created a lush, harmonic, and poetic sound that won the now legendary artist a huge international following. 1980's Volume 1 in the revered Silk Road series is considered an all-time masterpiece, with subsequent volumes only adding to its luster. '87's GRAMMY-nominated The Light Of The Spirit, a collaboration with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, exceeded sales of two million in the U.S. alone, elevating Kitaro's presence Stateside to an unprecedented degree. 1992's transcendent Dream, ...

Body And The Soil album
$15.95 INTRODUCING BRYANT SUGGSBryant was born to Fred Suggs and Hattie Barrow-Suggs, sharecropper's in Greene County, North Carolina. At eight years old, Bryant's dream of being a Gospel singer, playing instruments, songwriting and arranging, would touch the heart of God even as he picked tobacco, cotton and corn on the farm where he was born and raised. Even while priming tobacco, milking cows, and plowing the fields with mules, Bryant's penchant for performing Gospel music was growing. The Suggs family (eight brothers and two sisters) attended Maury Freewill Baptist Church in Maury, NC where Bryant, and four brothers, Fred, Jr. , William, Clayton and ES now Edgar formed a group aptly titled The Suggs Brothers. They performed at local churches and community fairs opening for major acts like Little Richard, Johnny Taylor and the Soul Stirrers. 'My father was my first musical mentor,' says Bryant. ...
