Winner of the first season of the country singing competition Nashville Star, Chris Young makes a seamless transition from TV to record with his self-titled debut--a solid, rock-influenced country album that features a number of songs co-written by Young himself. Highlights include the excellent first single "Drinkin' Me Lonely" and the stomping country rocker "Beer or Gasoline," which Young delivers with Toby Keith-style one-of-the-guys bravado.

While it might be sacrilegious to blues aficionados, many listeners find the genre a bit boring. How many times, they wonder, can a singer rely on three chords to sing about how his woman left him? Paul Geremia rises above the blues dog pile on Love, Murder and Mosquitos by bringing edgy vocals and lively acoustic guitar work to bear on an eclectic set list.
