| | Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical DVD Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical CDS
The longest-running show in the history of Broadway's Plymouth Theatre, Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical brings new life to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story of romance and the epic battle between good and evil. A whirlwind odyssey pitting man against himself is set in motion when the brilliant Dr. Jekyll's medical experiment backfires, giving life to his evil alter ego, Edward Hyde. The show won a legion of repeat visitors (dubbed by the press as "Jekkies") and spawned hit songs on the pop charts with "Someone Like You" and "This Is the Moment. Robert Louis Stevenson's classic drama of the fight between good and evil comes to the stage in the Broadway music, JEKYLL AND HYDE. With dramatic staging and lighting, gorgeous music, and an intense performance by star David Hasselhoff (of TV's BAYWATCH), as the two-faced title character, this is literary adaptation at its finest. Captured on film with ten different high-definition cameras, it is also visually stunning. Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical Movie Review Above expectations Having read some of the previous bad reviews about this DVD, I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the performances. I've seen J&H live (national tour) twice and I thought the cast in this DVD was the same as the touring company (except David H.). I thought he did fine, not great, and besides he is a tv/pop star and not a broadway singer. Perhaps if he performed this play 100's of times like the others, he'd improve greatly. As bad as you wanna be...... As a four time veteran of this show on Broadway, I was very much looking forward to this one. I was very suprised at just how disappointed I would be with David Hasselhoff's performance. Anyone who thought Baywatch was holding him back was definitely wrong!! All this one is worth is the ensemble cast and the great sound. Submitted by a reviewer (Phillipsburg, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
AWESOME..aside from one thing I personally LOVE this show, theres nothing i dont like about the actual show, and the original recordings. However, I had my hopes high for this movie, and they were brutally destroyed. David Hasselhoff, was SO bad, that I had to turn it off, which was unfortunate because the rest of the cast was incredible. I think that the only reason this movie was made was because Hasselhoff wanted to show his "multiple talents" unfortunatly he butcherd the show with bad vocals and weak acting. Pitiful Cast Maybe it's wrong to compare, but having spent years listening to Linda Eder, Robert Cuccioli, Christiane Noll, I knew David Hasselhoff could never match their performances, but I would have expected the production to at least try to come close.
David Hasselhoff may have a huge following in Germany, but many of his notes are flat. He tried to hard, nothing seemed natural from him.
Coleen Sexton, if she couldn't hit the note it seemed to took to speaking or whispering it instead. That got to be rather annoying from my standpoint. If you can't belt out a tune when it is called for, then why be in musicals in the first place? I expected more from her role. While she is beautiful and showed some range, she just didn't have what it took to match up to Linda Eder's performance.
Andrea Rivette was the best of the trio, but of the show the actor playing John Utterson was the best. In all honesty, the only reason we kept watching the musical was to find out his name.
I wouldn't buy it! HBO is currently running it this month 12/03 - you can watch it there and be your own judge. Submitted by Ann (New England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
A great Performance Even though David Hasseloff had trouble with some of the notes I think he did a great job for a beginner.I had heard about the musical, but never saw it until this and I have to say it made me a quick fan of the musical. I recommand that if you haven't seen it to give it a look. Submitted by a reviewer (Buffalo, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical film
$9.99 Music composed by Mark Hollman. Lyrics written by Greg Kotis.
If your first reaction on hearing about a musical called Urinetown is that that's an awful title, don't worry, the authors are way ahead of you. Its awfulness is the point, and Urinetown is as much a musical about a musical as it is, well, a musical. The opening song, for example, is called "Too Much Exposition," and in it, Officer Lockstock (Jeff McCarthy), who acts as the narrator, explains "the central conceit of the show," which is that, in a mythical town suffering a drought, "everyone has to use public bathrooms" and pay high fees, a story line Little Sally (Spencer Kayden) describes as "bad subject matter." Urinetown might as well be called "Allegory-ville," you see, even though that wouldn't be as repulsive -- and therefore as provocative -- a title. Lyricist/librettist Greg Kotis clearly has spent a lot of time studying Bertolt Brecht, and composer/co-lyricist Mark Hollmann is a big fan of Kurt Weill, so that Urinetown's clear antecedents are shows like The Threepenny Opera and Weill/Brecht disciple Mark Blitzstein's The Cradle Will Rock. The story is about the evil rich and the hapless poor, and the authors draw equally from the Depression era of the 1930s and the naïve ...

Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical review
$17.09 Muisc & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Score conducted by David Caddick.
Recorded live at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC. Includes a book by John Weidman & liner notes by Frank Rich.
The musical Bounce, with songs by Stephen Sondheim and a libretto by John Weidman (the two had previously collaborated on Pacific Overtures and Assassins), played for six weeks at the Goodman Theater in Chicago (June 30-August 10, 2003), followed by four weeks at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. (October 21-November 16, 2003). These runs may have been considered tryouts for Broadway, but during the D.C. engagement, the producers announced that the show would not be going to New York. They blamed a lack of theater space, but observers noted the negative reviews Bounce had received. For most shows that close ...

Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical movie DVD
$9.99 Kristin Chenoweth capped a rising career in musical theater with her debut solo album, which found her showing off her well-trained soprano in a collection of show tunes, most of which dated to the interwar period. On Irving Berlin's "Let Yourself Go," she tap danced like Fred Astaire in Follow the Fleet, and she worked up a torrent of comic anger in Jule Styne's "If You Hadn't But You Did." Then, she switched gears, proving herself a potently romantic figure in the Gershwins' "How Long Has This Been Going On?" and Rodgers and Hart's "My Funny Valentine." And so it went. Backed by the Coffee Club Orchestra, the resident backup band for City Center's Encores! series of concert versions of lost musicals, with whom she had worked on Strike Up the Band and On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, she recreated one of the Strike Up the Band numbers, the lesser-known ...
