| | George Lopez El Mas Chingon CD George Lopez Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
After a tumultuous year (2006)that included a kidney transplant, superstar comedian George Lopez returns to his old haunt, the Ice House, in Pasadena, California--where he recorded TEAM LEADER--to record this live stand-up romp, EL MAS CHINGON. The material is classic Lopez--an incisive, politically incorrect view of growing up poor and Latino in America. Much of it focuses on his family and their foibles--like an aunt who tells him that he'll end up on the street, which he translates as his newly unveiled star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame--but he also manages a few timely digs at George W. Bush.

| | Jeff Dunham - Spark Of Insanity DVD (2007) Widescreen
El Mas Chingon songs
$11.35 Comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham hits the stage with hilarious new pals Achmed the Dead Terrorist and Melvin the Super hero, as well as old favorites Peanut, Walter, and Jose Jalapeno, in this sidesplitting performance at Washington D.C.'s Warner Theater.
More than just a stand-up comic, Jeff Dunham is a one-man comedy troupe--a ring-leader in a circus of snark. The veteran ventriloquist may be the only one with vocal chords, but he’s often the least vocal, playing straight man to a steam trunk of personalities: Achmed the Dead Terrorist, a goofball skeleton still fighting the infidels; Peanut, an odd purple creature with a fast mouth; Jose Jalapeño, a smooth-talking pepper on a stick; Bubba J, NASCAR’s biggest fan; and Walter, a dirty old man who speaks his mind. Together with his hilarious and irreverent puppets, Dunham riffs on everything from politics to family life, and slays the audience with his quick-witted banter. SPARK OF INSANITY features one of Dunham’s ...

| | Regurgitate Deviant CD (2003)
El Mas Chingon album
$26.79 The surprising effort Deviant comes from a revamped version of cult gore-grind act Regurgitate that includes just one member of their original lineup of more than a decade before. Earlier Regurgitate releases struck a chord with fans of disgusting, Earache-schooled grindcore and death metal, but they were hardly groundbreaking. One could argue that Deviant isn't all that groundbreaking either, as the influences of Earache bands such as Napalm Death, Carcass, and Terrorizer are still strongly evident (there's even the cover of a song by another, more obscure Earache band, Unseen Terror), but the presentation is different. For one thing, the group has largely ditched the old scatological, medical textbook-referencing song titles (and lyrics, presumably, though it's hard to tell) in favor of more abstract, sociopolitical-themed titles such as "Systematic Demoralization" and "Depopulation of the Human Race." With this shift comes a new, more aggressive sonic edge, with a more punk-inspired musical attack and vocals that are more of a hardcore-derived scream than the guttural growl of before. The production also ...
| | Lew Lewis Save The Wail Plus The Stiff Singles & Live Bonus Tracks CD (1980) Bonus Tracks
El Mas Chingon CD music
$15.89 Lew Lewis' only solo album was a competent, unexciting blend of pub rock and blues-rock, about half of it from the artist's own pen. Lewis was a good Little Walter-styled harmonica player, but as a singer he fell into the energetic-but-anonymous category occupied by uncountable bar band vocalists. The songs are rather hackneyed, slightly pop-tinged blues/R&B/rock, not getting any better than "Win or Lose," which blends an early Yardbirds-like harmonica R&B charge with the more anthemic melodies of late-'70s new wave power pop. [The 2002 CD reissue more than doubles the length of the original LP with 11 bonus cuts, including both sides of a couple of Stiff singles from the late '70s and early '80s. Each of those has a mood similar to that of the album, with perhaps a bit of the ska revival filtering into "1-30 2-30 3-35." The CD's filled out by four live 1977 tracks, and three live 1979 cuts; the tracks from 1977 have decent fidelity, the 1979 efforts suffer a more muffled audio (though they're still more than listenable). Most of the live cuts stray closer to straight blues than the rest of the disc does. ~ Richie Unterberger
682970000336 Essentially a 'Best Of', this compilation is brimming with taut R&B energy. Features the complete 'Save The Wail' album, plus the two Stiff singles (A&B sides) and seven live tracks.
